Rant on Wastefulness and Stupidity

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Hi all,

Our landlord decided recently that he wanted his house back, despite the agreement we had to the contrary, and he's begun making changes to the property to suit his future use of it.

Apparently, the 2-story antique cypress barn we rented with the house didn't fit into his picture of a gentleman farmer's ideal....

SO, he had someone pull the barn down and they were supposed to take the wood, clean up the mess, etc.

It seems that they got tired part of the way through the job- this barn was in good condition except for some moisture rot along the bottom edges of the outside wings.(typical for Louisiana) SO when they discovered that it would be more difficult to tear down than they thought, they changed tactics. Two days ago, they set fire to the rest of the barn. I swear I wanted to cry. All of that wood was wasted, and I know any number of people that could have used it for great purposes. BTW, they also left two huge piles of broken junk (useless stuff- I checked, believe me LOL)they didn't want to dispose of, so it looks like an episode of Sanford and SOns over here.

If we weren't in the middle of a big to-do with the landlord, we would have stopped them ourselves and found someone to give the lumber to.

He's told us he's also cutting down the trees around us (40 acres worth) and (guess what?) burning them on site. His reasoning is that he wants to be able to yell at the neighbors around the corner and get their attention easily. Besides, they're not GOOD trees or anything, he says.

I can't wait til the day we leave and I can tell this guy what i think of him... Just my luck to lease from a pyro with no respect for history OR nature : (

Rant over... thanks for listening

Hey Joel,

It's good to see you here. You left not too long after I found CS, but I always enjoyed your posts.

You're right about renting- we're in the process of working toward a more permanent homestead. Wish us luck on the journey : )

I hope you and Becky are enjoying Va!

Aw man...I'm sorry. That just plain sucks. I sure hope you find a nice place of your own quickly! Before the trees are destroyed. I'm depressed now. Rant on girl. You can bet I would!

Kristin part of the question is; How do you give a person like that *one up side the head* to get them to wake up?? One can look around and see this same sort of thing all to often!....what to do?
