EOS30/Elan7E with what 24mm zoom lens?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I currently own an EOS30 and I like to purchase a wide angle zoom lens (at least 24mm) to go with it. Could all you kind souls out there please give comments on the following lens or recommend other such lens? I've read Sigma's warning for EOS30 users but the new sigma's EX DG has no problems, what about Tamaron? Cannon 24-85mm f3.5/4.5 Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 EX DG Tamaron 24-135 f3.5/5.6

My choice would be (and is) the Canon 24-85. I use this lens in conjunction with an EOS 3 body (and I used an EOS 5 for a long while), and my other lenses are all L series. The 24-85 has Ring USM, which is a feature I will not buy a lens without now.

Depending on your budget, Canon are rumoured to be releasing a 24- 105 F2.8 L USM, possibly with IS also. This will run to about $1500 to $2000, or whatever this will translate to in your local currency. I suspect that this is a lot more than you're willing to spend on the lens.

I agree that the best option would be Canon's 24-85mm USM. An excellent lens and Full Time Manual (FTM) focusing would be hard to live without now that I've become addicted to it.

Tamron's 24-135mm is supposed to be very good but does not have FTM.
