Corporate hospitality at SJP

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

A friend of mine was able to partake of a corporate freeby at SJP recently. The usual stuff, meal in the Bamburgh suite, free bar, pre match entertainment, top seats in the Milburn (probably previously owned by some of us!) However he was shocked that the local 'comedian' who comprised some of the pre match 'entertainment' told numerous dodgy jokes and some downright racist ones.

Well then, only a couple of weeks ago, BR and the boys were happily supporting the 'give racism the red card' campaign. Such irony. The fault probably lies with those on the commercial side at the club but it's pretty sickening in view of the club's stated committment to kick out racism.

If I'd been there I would complain myself but obviously I wasn't. My mate doesn't feel inclined to as he was there as a guest of a big local company. However I wonder whether the FLC could maybe look at this issue. It can't only be my mate who was offended? Any ideas?

Lynda - I joined the prawn sarnie brigade in the Bamburgh Suite for the Spurs game earlier in the season. They had a very average band playing - rather too loudly - and the "Compere" was local celebrity comedian, Spike Rawlings.

To be honest, I thought the whole thing was rather tatty, and even the food wasn't that good. Some 'well- heeled' Spurs fans close by were really sniffy about our "corporate entertainment", and frankly I couldn't really argue with them.

Well my friend said he enjoyed most of the day except for the 'comedy'. It is typical that the commercial side of the club get it wrong and hire entertainment which is either poor or racist or both.

It costs a good few quid to host one of these days - seeing something better than Spike Rawlings might be nice! Although I don't think he was the guy on the day my mate went.
