Why HAs Poes Annabel Lee remained a classic in American Literature?

Possibly because it is a very good poem that skillfully does what it is meant to do. Not merely tell a story or lament but convey a rich, unconventional texture of feeling through relentless sound music and restricted imagery in a simple short ballad, timeless in its sparsity of detail and strength of feeling. And that extra touch of something fierce, scary and pitiable. Like Wuthering Heights in a few lines.
