What control unit to buy.

My layout is simple and I'd like to get into DCC. Which control unit should I buy?

Dear Bruce,

You did not mention how much you are willing to spend on a system. There is a lot to choose from on the DCC Market. My suggestion is to choose a system that gives you the capability to grow if cost is a first consideration. In other words, if you choose a lower cost system then choose one that can be expanded or integrated into a full featured system if your needs change. Thus my suggestion is the Digitrax Genesis which is under $200.00 on the discount market. To upgrade this system all it takes is to replace the UT2 throttle with the DT300 throttle. Or you can choose the Atlas DCC system made by Lenz. This system can be integrated into the higher featured Lenz systems that use Xpress Net. The key is to determine what it is you want to do. My layout is a simple double track arrangement but I chose a professional grade system to run it so that I have room to grow and expand as my needs change, sound decoders, signal systems, routes etc.
