Give him a chance. I think it will change, and for the better. The change may be gradual, but change it will. The nature of that change will be partly up to us, and how we conduct ourselves. If we can talk about politics without resorting to personal insults and share our religious views without inerjecting them onto EVERY SINGLE THREAD, I think we will be allowed to discuss those subjects. At least that is what I am hoping for.

Rebekah, remember the guy who had a dream?? He got shot, in fact most of the peace makers end up shot. Weird isn't it. Both sides are ready to crucify the guy and he only just started. I think Ed made some valid points on the other thread. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), February 18, 2002.

I just looked at his websites, and he seems like a nice guy to me. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. At least, since he is Christian, I don't believe he will be making what I consider blasphemous remarks on the forum, and asking us to tolerate such. I don't know if the forum will do well or not, but I'll be checking in.

I've been gone for a few days and just now caught up w/ this stuff. If I understand what I read correctly, CS Mag won't have any input anymore. So, go to Chucks' personal website and check it out. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Chuck's ok. Give 'em a chance people.

Besides, if you, we, us, etc. no longer go there anyway.....Why the fuss? That forum fills a need for many people and is a great resource for folks. When I do go there and lurk, I don't recognise most of 'em. Hey, they weren't part of that mess that occured anyway. Let it go.

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?" And Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy seven times."

How can anyone claim to be a Christian and hold on to hatred so? Yeah, I can see how people would feel welcome at this site.....or not.

Maybe I'll just paste this at the other thread too.

Oh I'll wager most of you folks here will like ol Chuck just fine.........

EM, you can be so ornery ;-) !!! Ditto what Auntie Em said above.

Earthmama and Annie! OH my stars and garters! Hi gang. Miss you both. Stop by more often.

-- John in S. IN (jdoofus@hotmail.com), February 18, 2002.

Well, I for one will give the man the benefit of the doubt. Let's see what happens. I may post occassionally there but I was invited here and here I will call Home.

-- Joel Rosen (JoelnBecky@webtv.net), February 18, 2002.

See Rebekah there you go wanting to talk about POLITICS already on the homesteading site. It is a HOMESTEADING site, not a politics one. Stay here and talk about your politics if you want but please don't start trouble over there again and wreck it for the ones who want to hear about homesteading. Just because ken is gone doesn't mean that we want to change the site. It has been good there lately without all the off subject postings.

-- mvkk (mvkk@aol.com), February 19, 2002.

One man's gold is another mans trash ! I've always been leary and cynical about those who hide behind "nics" names that I cannot find meaning in. So this "mvvc" has stated that I shouldn't talk because I do not properly act like a christian. I think that the many times I affirmed that I believe that I rarely if ever called my self a christian. I often claimed to believe. "mvvc" has claimed the forum is better without us--than why was it degenerating and closing it's doors ? Moreover, why is "mvvc" here instead of there ? Homesteading is Freedom !! I'll say again what I have said many times before--No one ever ran to be a homesteader. They were running from something and became one ! "mvvc", I am a bigger man than to censor you--talk on brother or sister but if your words fall on deaf ears than don't be surprised. As you can clearly see, you are only one voice.

Mvkk, politics have never been entirely banned as far as I could tell. Right wing politics have, but there are many political issues still discussed on Countryside. Lots of environmental issues for example. If Earth First! is not a political group and neither is PETA, it's sure news to me.

Frankly, I don't remember you from the old days, in fact this is the first I've hear of you at all. Maybe you are going by a new handle. Anyway, the forum used to be more like a community. It's not like that anymore. There are always a lot of questions from people who are just starting out, many of which we answer again and again. Ask Vicki. Sometimes I will go and find an old post and cut and paste it onto a new answer, why type the same thing ten times? For the ones who have been homesteading for awhile, sometimes we run out of questions to ask and things to say about homesteading. It's pretty much the same thing year after year with a little variety now and then. We get bored. It's fun to talk about what other homesteaders wear, whether or not they work on Saturday or Sunday and how that affects farm chores, and how viable worldwide veganism would or wouldn't be. I don't really see these things as being off subject, it's just that when you are pretty much past the basics of how to milk a goat and grow a garden, put food by, a homesteading life gives you a different perspective on life and the the world. It's great to have other homesteaders to discuss this with. Topics such as whether men should pee standing up or not, and Limp bizkit, are another story. They have nothing at all to do with homesteading.

The last thing I want to do is to disrupt or ruin the forum. I love that forum! But I do think that the old blood needs to stay, both to maintain some continuity and flavor, and to lend their advice to the new homesteaders.

Rebekah I don't remember Mvkk from the old days either and I was on there for a long time. And you sure were never a trouble maker. In fact you wre always very helpful. We originals know the truth and you know the truth sets you free.

Mvkk, forums leave us a lot of freedom to chose. I can not help wondering what your point is here.

-- diane (gardiacaprines@yahoo.com), February 19, 2002.

Hi,

I don't post much on here, but do read just about everything. :) Since you're discussing the CS forum, I have a question....when exactly did the forum begin? I have a tendency to lurk awhile before I ever post on a forum. I believe I started posting on CS about the middle of 2000, but seem to remember reading posts there at least a year before that? You "old timers" from CS, how long has it been there?

BTW, I've never seen mvkk post on CS either.

-- Lenette (kigervixen@webtv.net), February 19, 2002.

Well I guess this let's us know there are a lot more lurkers out there. HI!!!!!

My best wishes to Chuck....I hope he doesn't need it tooooooo badly! Glad the archives are going to be preserved, but myself....I think I have sufficiently moved on. I also have no desire to go and reacquaint myslef with a whole nother bunch of people. I don't have the time nor the energy for it. We shall see what transpires. And again, I am really glad the archives will be preserved!

-- Doreen (bisquit@here.com), February 19, 2002.

Hey, Y'all!! Wow, lots of excitement lately, I see. Nice to see Joel here. I almost never get online anymore. I'm glad the CS archives will not be deleted. Hi Doreen!!

-- Cathy in NY (hrnofplnty@yahoo.com), February 19, 2002.

lenette,I'm not certain when CS began, but I started posting there in October of 1999.

-- lesley (martchas@bellsouth.net), February 20, 2002.

I believe you can find when any of the open forums on lusenet began by going to their statistics page.

-- Earthmama (earthmama48@yahoo.com), February 20, 2002.

The stat page says 6-15-99. I've started there 11-99

-- Cindy (SE. IN) (atilrthehony@hotmail.com), February 20, 2002.

Hey gang. Like Cathy, I haven't been able to get online much lately...been WAY busier than I have wanted to be. GOOD TO HEAR FROM JOEL AGAIN!!!!!!!!!! :) I have missed your input! As for CS forum, I wish them well, but I really feel more at home here.

God's blessings to all.
