I have to do an english report in witch I have to cite all of my information. I was descusing the death of poe with a friend when he told me that he herd that Poe was barried alive. I would like to put this in my report but need to know were its found.

The Biography.com website says Poe died in a hospital bed, I think this site says he died in a gutter. To answer your question, no, Poe wasn't buried alive, however he was afraid of being buried alive. So he made plans for his coffin to contain a gun attached to the lid that would shoot a flag up through the ground. Sorry, I can't find a site that backs this up but I'll keep looking. I hope your report isn't due soon.

Poe din't slip quietly into a trance. He died pretty traumatically. Those coffin arrangements never happened but his bodied was moved around and obviously there was no evidence of his awakening. There WAS a minor novel about that happening and of course Poe's own stories make rumors and legends easy to spread. Reality had some stranger elements you might explore in a real biography rather than a rumor.

He was found lying in the gutter. They think he died of rabies nowadays, but then it was said in his obituary that he died of congestion of the brain.
