Are we LUCKY with injuries?

Ponderings from something I wrote half in jest on another thread.

I've had a think and we have been REMARKABLY lucky with injuries. I kept thinking that Dyer and Cort were big injuries, but we are where we are without them. So I have discounted both Dyer and Cort, as Cort is out from last season, and in my opinion Dyer too is still suffering from last season's woes, so isn't regular enough to count.

On that basis, which of our first team 'regulars' this season has been out for more than a few games? Speed was out for a couple, Lee said he was injured but wasn't regularly holding his place. That's it? My God, what a short list! Look at any other team (like us last year) and at times it can be difficult to put a fully fit 11 on the pitch.

So what is it? Better fitness, fewer dangerous tackles, better warming up, or just pure, old fashioned luck?

Fitness boosted by Intertoto, loss of a certain first team coach, different training facilities - take your pick.

...... simple - no training facilities!

Don't tempt fate nick.

Yep, have thought the same thing recently. Problem is we still don't have the squad depth we'd like to think we have. Example - who plays down the right if Solano gets crocked? And let's say two of Dabizas, O'Brien and Distin are suspended/injured at the same time. Who plays CB? And there's NO replacement for Bellamy. Dyer's the neaerst thing (injured), but Cort (injured) and Ameobi (slow, slow, slow) require a whole different forward game. And I still say LLL's a joke.

Well when Shearer was out for months that was Not lucky so it's just balancing out this season. It just shows how well we are doing though that we don't consider our 20 Million man Dyer missing to be a massive problem. If another team was missing a 20 million pound + player, for instance if Arsenal were missing Henry, it would be a massve deal. Whereas we aren't making much of a fuss about Dyer being out because we are still winning.

IF we were playing badly in the absence of Dyer, I'm sure the title of this thread would have been "we're so Unlucky with Injuries!"

I wouldn't say you have been lucky with injuries. Dyer and Cort are two of your most expensive players and have been far from fit.

However, you have MOST DEFINITELY been lucky with officials. When was the last key decision that went against "The Toon"? I can name plenty that went in your favour, most of them by officials originating in Tring.

Well I can think of a couple of ludicrous red cards that were subsequently revoked, for a start.

ML, if having five goals disallowed in four matches is lucky with officials, I'd hate to see your definition of unlucky..
