Discussion about what is happening over at Countryside

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACountryPlace : One Thread

I am going to break my personal rule up to now and bring up what is going on over at Countryside. All I have to say, is that the hole that they shot in their foot is now getting infected. I am really sorry to see that forum go, but when you practice free speech yourself and take advantage of it's blessings to earn your living, then deny others the same priviledge, you pretty much have nowhere to go but down. I am fairly confident that the person chosen to head the forum hereafter will also be as restrictive as those who are choosing him. If so I don't give the forum much chance of making it. It is just completely unfeasable to stop everyone at the door and question them like you would a jury to find out if their beliefs are acceptable. Ultimately this whole debacle has and will affect the magazine. Even so it was their choice, and as such they should shoulder the responsibility.

As I have never been trying to compete. I am comfortable with my stones.

I enjoy the way,, alot of the "other" offshoot forums, started out with a good idea,, and have just become, a copycat of the crap at CS

This is my first visit here, so I hope I'm not over-stepping by posting. I've been on the CS forum for two years now and I still enjoy it's diversity. This past week, we've had a thread going about homesteaders who are not white and I think that it is fascinating. One of the things I've noticed also is that since Chuck took over, we are governing ourselves there. It is as if we are trying harder to be polite! Now, I'm not saying anything against Ken because I really like him and enjoyed his emails! As for the other various off-shoots of the CS forum, each moderator has the right to do what he/she feels comfortable with.

This post was written before the changeover at countryside. I like Chuck too.
