Bellamy Fine - £100,000 my Arse!greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
Is this 2 weeks wages, as in the maximum permitted fine?Newcastle United have fined Craig Bellamy £40,000 and warned him about his future conduct following his police caution for an assault on a female student last week.
The fine was the maximum possible under players' union rules, but Newcastle have warned the Wales international striker he must improve his behaviour if he's to remain with the club.
"It's been a terrible week for me," Bellamy was quoted as saying in The Guardian. "The only answer I can give is to play football and do well."
Bellamy was cautioned after a night out drinking with fellow Newcastle players Carl Cort and Wayne Quinn, while Kieron Dyer acted as chauffeur. Cort and Quinn were also warned by the club, but Bellamy was considered the main culprit, and told of the fine by chairman Freddy Shepherd on his return from international duty.

They got in with the headline £100,000, waited for it to die down a bit and did the usual. Not a bad bit of PR.

Aye Nick, Bellamy's a fine player. But I'm not sure you'll get many takers at that price. ;-)

Shame - ten of them and I'll be retired. Never sit down again maybe, but rich.

.... unfortunately, it probably isn't "the end of the story".I've been in foreign parts so haven't seen the details of what happened, but presumably if he was arrested for assault he could be in real trouble with The Bill? Chuffin idiot!

T0$$er!!

Just because he was arrested it doesn't mean the incident will be followed up by the police. With a bit of luck it has taught him a lesson in how to behave in public. He'll certainly be more careful when he's out and about on the Quayside from now on.

Paul, Bellamy wasn't arrested. He was cautioned. That particular incident is now closed as far as the police are concerned.

If he wasn't even arrested then it is a very minor offence.
