how much do we want the cup?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

question being that since we seem to be legit title contenders, and the most important days of the title race ahead.... couldn't we do with resting the big guns this week?

The Premiership trophy will be very lonely all by itself in that big empty trophy room won't it? I vote we get it some company. :-)

Winning is a good habit. Let's not break it.

A lot (to answer the original question). An FA Cup and a top 6 finish was out of my wildest dreams at the start of the season. There's no reason now why we won't achieve the latter, so where's the harm in going for the former ?

We have to win a lot fewer games to land the FA Cup. Bobby will be going for it 200 per cent.

I'm 26. I've NEVER seen Newcastle win anything. Well, apart from that preseason comp in Ireland a while back. I'd be well happy with the FA Cup.

no question to answer, suffice to say that I was disapointed in losing to Troyes in Inter -Toto.

We won't win the league, we MIGHT win the cup.

I'm 43, we WILL win the double

-- Anonymous, February 15, 2002

I'm 39. Maybe that's why I don't think we'll win the league (39 times bitten twice shy).

Lets just see how things look come March 7. If were still in the cup and within 4 or 5 points of the top, then we can start to think we may have a chance.

you should've suffered those extra 4 DSS!

My ambition is for us to win something in my son's lifetime... BUT....

To tell the truth, the Cup isn't exciting me much yet. I think it's because the Cup has masked sh*t league form in the past and we don't (so far) need such a distraction this time out. Having said that, after our next three league fixtures, we may feel a bit different..

I'd much rather win the PL Championship. However, the plain fact is that can't afford to pick and choose, we have to go for everything - one game at a time - and see where it takes us.

We could draw two PL games between now and the end of the season and only finish 2nd or 3rd - ie. without losing a game. On the other hand, win 4 or 5 FAC games and and we could be running round Cardiff with t' Cup - doesn't have the same ring, but I'd take it.
