Just found this on Soccerage - nothing definite but who knows? : 02/14/2002. Celta have confirmed today they will try to sign a new central defender only hours after admitting their interest in Sebastian Mendez.

This was caused by Eduardo Berizzo's unexpected injury, which will force the Galician club to make a move as quick as possible.

Newcastle "full-back" Marcelino is said to be on Celta manager Victor Fernandez' shortlist.
