Tamron Teleconverters

Anyone out there got any experience with Tamron 2x teleconverters? I've seen one for a good price and wonder how it would work with my Canon 200mm 2.8.

Cheers

John, Hopefully you'll get more precise responses than this, but I hope it's a start. The Tamron converter is a typical, decent independent converter. The rule is that independent conerters are not as good as manufacturer's ones-but they are a heck of a lot cheaper. Also 2x is never is good as 1.4x and many people don't even think that Canon and Nikon 2x converters are that good. Having said that it depends on your definition of 'good'. My guess is that you'll get pretty good reults from the Tamron as you're putting it on a pretty good (and importantly fixed focal length lens), but that you'll be able to tell the difference in sharpness between using the 2x and not using it. If you can afford it get the 2xB Canon converter-it will definitely give you better results. Or, as you'll only get the equivalent of a 400mm f5.6, think about a Tokina or Sigma 400mm f5.6Apo-quite cheap and will give better quality than 200mm+2x. Hope this helps. Steve
