How do I get MSDTC running?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : SmartPart Development : One Thread

I have installed the MTS DLLs in a new Ceetak package within the MTS Explorer, but get the following message in Pump part maintenance:

error 'ASP 0216' MSDTC Service not running

/Ceetak/cgi-bin/x5AkTY45/pumpmodelmaintenance/customeredit/pumplist.asp

Transactional web pages cannot be run if the MSDTC service is not running.

Within the MTS Explorer, it shows that MSDTC is not running, but has no help on it. Within the Ceetak package, I can right click Ceetak and see an activation option (livrary or server), but both options seem to do nothing.

I don't really know the answer to this one. I've never had this error, but I'm not sure I've ever done any update operations on my local copy!!

Steve, A bit of a dumb day - I started MSDTC by right clicking the computer icon in MTS Explorer and selecting start MSDTC. All seems fine now. Quite why it does not start by default, I do not know.

I moved the MTS directory from it's position under 'ceetak frames' directory (because there is no need for it to be under the document root, nor is there for it to be under source control.

I did a number of other things then tried to run the local installation, and found that I was getting 'server.createobject()' failures. Because there is no indication that the problem is to do with actually finding the dlls where the objects are defined it was peculiarly difficult to track this problem down.

there must be a log of MTS errors somewhere - any ideas?
