Anybody celebrating Valentine's Day?

Does anyone have any plans for Valentine's Day? That will be Hub's and my 5th wedding anniversary - most likely we will sit around and try to figure out where the time went!! Actually, Pop will bring Bailey (his gf's 2 1/2 yo daughter - the gf drives a school bus and they have a ball game) out for dinner, and Jessie will stop by as well. I'm going to fix chicken fried steak with biscuits and cream gravy, corn that we froze last summer, glazed carrots, steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes for supper; and a cherry cobbler for dessert.

We do exchange gifts. Mama and Pop were married on Valentine's Day of 1957; every year Pop would bring home a heart shaped box of chocolates and flowers for Mama. When I got old enough to notice, he brought me smaller versions of the same. When I was 13, we had a 2 year old boy come to live with our family; on his first Valentine's Day with us, he noticed the flowers and candy and wanted to know where "his" were!! I quickly shared my chocolates, but Pop knew from then on, he'd better come home with 3 boxes!

This year, Pop already has the chocolates for Jessie and I wrapped and sitting on the counter - John went in with him on them as we just had too much chocolate (yes, really - TOO MUCH chocolate!) around here last year with both of them getting them for us. Since this is the "wood" aniversary; John is having the tree service deliver me some wood chips and bringing me some lumber to increase the size of my raised be garden. Jessie will be getting a sterling silver necklace and a lamp for her room; and Pop will recieve a new expandable file and a lap robe. Hubs will be happy with 4 different flavors of beef jerky and some wine - in a bottle instead of a box! And the bottle even has a cork - woo-hoo!! D'ya think he'll share?! He and I may go do something this weekend as well - unless he comes home Saturday with the new race Quad that he's been talking about - then I'll definately take 2nd place!!

I'm a sad story this year. We've been so doggone busy and this last week all three of us have felt so crappy that I damn near forgot it's Valentines day tomorrow! Sigh, reckon I'd better think fast.

Of course, it seems I'm the romantic in the family. My wife doesn't really seem to get into it all that much. Still, I can't let it go completely unobserved. Something will come to me tonight...

......Alan.

Nope, no plans! Well, I have plans, but they have nothing to do with Valentine's Day! Nor are they very interesting . . . .

No plans here, either...at least not on my part! After 31 yrs.of marriage, I'm really getting tired of the fact that it seems to be mostly the woman's responsibility to create the romantic "mood" and be "sexy"!! I'm just hoping for a visit from my granddaughter :-)!!

We don't usually do things like this, but it just so happens that the furniture we ordered was delivered today.....Italian.... red... leather. Hmmm. Now that gives me an idea for Valentine's Day!!!

Argh..now I have a picture in my head of you guys on that red sofa!! Get it out! Get it out!!

Just kidding. The kids made valentines for Daddy yesterday with my help and I have cards hidden away for later. While son #1 is in nursery school #2 and I will go get a box of chocolates for Hubby. He brought me lots of stuff from Montreal from a store that I like (I sent a list) and some of it wasn't even on the list. I guess thats my Valentine's gift...plus I bought that dress Saturday.. All in all I'd say I cleaned up good!!LOL I am planning salmon for supper. Maybe a bottle of wine and candles. But the kids keep trying to blow them out when I do that.

We celebrated this morning with a big hug and a great big laugh at what terribly predictable old farts we have become. Neither of us are particularly romantics about the "have to" holidays, but really like to surprise each other with little gestures at other times of the year.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Polly, hope you have a great day.

Happy 5th Anniversary, Polly!! And MANY more :-)!!

Go to work, go to school? I guess those are plans!

We will celebrate V-day next weekend with a Saturday night out of town. Dinner out, a hotel stay, and visits with friends we haven't seen in years.

Valentine's Day was my dad's birthday. Since he died, we haven't celebrated it much, but since it's been a number of years, we're moving on, I guess.

Happy Valentines Day to you all! And Happy Anniversary to you, Polly!

Happy Anniversary Polly. You made sure he couldn't forget Valentines Day, or was it that he couldn't forget your anniversary? ;-)

Joy - YES!! Besides that, since it would have been Mama and Pop's 40th anniversary had she not died shortly after their 33rd; we decided it was a good omen.

Thanks for the Happy's everyone!!

My Valentine Email was waiting for me when I logged on at 5:30 this morning. I decided earlier this week that I would not be sad today cause I have so much to be thankful for, a 15 year marriage and a husband I am still in love with.

Today I went to work where I spend my day with a 13 year old terminally ill child in a wheel chair who is a total delight. I came home knowing how terribly lucky I am with my 3 healthy children. Wishing you all love and peace! Kim

I didn't do much planning , for obvious reasons :>), but I actually had two dates for the occasion. One lady called me to go out for dinner in commemoration of the divorce decree finalization (not as celebration, only future vision in place of mulling), the other was a chance occurance with an old classmate that became a casual date and lunch at an out of the way place in another county. All in all , quite pleasurable. Glad your day was so grand. BTW, today I am on a cheesecake buzz :>)

I'm so glad you enjoyed the card, Anne! This is so amusing.......we too just took delivery on red leather furniture.....well burgundy actually.......been waiting since NOV 19TH!! So we are enjoying it immensely....although you may be enjoying yours even more.....for various reasons...sorry Alison..... you'll get over it ....:)

Well, technically it is cranberry in color. But it is so far out of what we usually choose...sedate greens or navy or black, that we feel just a bit ornery.

Jay, you're quite the social butterfly. Glad you had such a nice day.

Man and we haven't even owned a couch for 3 years! You got me thinking guys, David is home in just 2 short weeks.

You GO Jay! I too am glad you had a nice Valentines Day. You deserve one! 2 dates in 1 day..... man oh man!
