Dunn Deal

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Newspaper report today says YBR is after Dunn from Blackburn to sign in the summer with competition from Chelsea amongst others.

I think they are relying upon BBR being relegated.

Definately a good player and the right age. Would he be able to get a game in our midfield?

This would be a very exciting buy but Blackburn won't let him go cheaply.

He'd be a great signing, but again, it seems to point towards Kieron Dyer either leaving or being permanently injured.

I don't reckon Dunn would sign if he wasn't given a starting place.

However, he's even less likely to start at Chelsea.

He would definitely bring a touch of glamour to the club. He's just shacked up with one of the current bun's page 3 girls. jaki I think her name is, lovely personality apparently ;-)

Don't agree that this would leave us overstaffed in mf. I feel the signing of Jenas was less to do with the immediate need for a mf, more with the fact that we had a small window of opportunity in which to get him. Either McClen or Acuna, or both, is likely to move on as they're simply not up to holding down a regular place. Dunn (or a.n.other), Jenas, Speed and Dyer would give us options in midfield, with none of the four likely to be kicking their heels on the sidelines for too long, giving that at any given time one would be on the bench and probably at least one injured or suspended.

I fear we have another adherent of the "Glass Half Empty" school of thought here! Or possibly "Glass fallen off the table and smashed on the floor" school of thought - pioneered, you will recall, by Pit Bill - whose cup, verily, runneth over these days! (Meynd - it'll aaall end in tears) :-)

It points to no such thing, just as the signing of Ferguson did not portend the sale of Shearer (an idea aired angrily in this forum at the time). It points to the club continually attempting to strengthen the squad, a policy it has followed assiduously for at least 10 seasons now, despite the efforts of the two managers in the interregnum between The Messiahs.

I venture to suggest that this is the first ever use of "interregnum" in this forum (and last if I have my way - ed) and I claim my prize. Now if someone can post something with "vouchsafed" in it, I shall be very, nay, extremely pleased.

And there's bound to be some smart-arse who says "you just did Jonno" so I'll say that it's use in inverted commas (implicit or explicit) doesn't count.

The muse has taken hold of me now. I feel a new BBS feature coming on here. "Word of the Week" or something where an epithet is selected from the disused sections, the flotsam and jetsam if you will, of The Oxford English, and contributors vie, strive, and strain every sinew, to introduce this bon mot into their missives, diatribes and treatises about "wor midfield" and suchlike. The acclaim, approbation, approval, commendation and esteem of one's fellow contributors would surely be more than sufficient incentive for such literary vigours. Or, mayhap a pint in The Strawberry (or clique of the contributor's choosing) could provide further inducement.

Inebriated as I am by the exuberance of my own verbosity and whereas inasmuch as hithertofore notwithstanding wherewithall - (Nurse! Sedatives! Get him out of here! - ed)

Oi you, Jonno! Yes, you over there laddy. Mr Gibson (not Wor Gobbi) would be proud of you. I fear another English prize for you ;-)

BTW - can you please tell me what vouchsafe means, with or without the quotes. Perhaps I could then add a "d" and make you happy.

Vouchsafes are these little bits of paper you get from Safeway that you save up so your kids' school can get a free pen or summat.

I've noticed that certain members of the BBS have vacillated between glass-half-full and glass-half-empty stances of late.

-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002

I normally pay around £30 for half an hour of vacillating

Jacko, is that what the makems use for their tickets?

-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002

Is that one of those drive-thru vassilectomy thingies I've seen advertised in California?

-- Anonymous, February 14, 2002

I'm not sure if it's best to have the single MMR jab or have 3 separate vacillations.

Anyway, this desorves a new thread IMHO so see The Word.

pSy

Not from a site, I have an automatic email from www ananova (something like that) which picks out all news items relating to NUFC. This was a short piece thrown in among McClen and Bellars drinking habits. I can't remember which paper it came from and I have deleted it now. It just said YBR was tracking Dunn and hoped to sign him in the summer but would face opposition from several clubs including Chelsea, and I think Villa.
