Too many conflicting reports for me to believe this.

Knight-Ridder had this story late last night in the Miami Herald. It was all unnamed sources. Not saying it's not true but I think it's more like disinformation to put the wind up Saddam.

To do a link: You know those symbols that look like bent elbows? I can't type them because they won't show. Okay, they look like arrowheads. Sideways Vs? Onmy keyboard they're on the upper case of the comma and period. Yeah, them. Okay. Do the following, putting a an arrowhead facing left where you see { and an arrowhead facing right where you see }.

{a href=

Okay. At that point you have to cut and paste the URL of the article immediately after the = sign. So let's say you want to link to something from the BBC site which is here. The story you want is http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/middle_east/newsid_1819000/1819 380.stm. You can either cut and paste the article into the posting box here or you can just do a link. Carrying on from the gobbledeygook above:

{a href=http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/middle_east/newsid_1819000 /1819380.stm - then add a } without a space and the name of the article, followed by {/a}.

This gives you {a href=http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/middle_east/newsid_1819000 /1819380.stm}Al Queda suspect dies in Yemen blast{/a}

Using the bent elbows for the curly brackets, on the page you get:

Al Queda suspect dies in Yemen blast

Useful tips on posting

thanks Old Git, I just keep learning. :>) Never thought of the "disinformation" angle, that is reassuring. Had two sons in the 82nd Airborne who were kind of pissed off when the got called off when they were 50 miles from Bagdad the last time we were there. I have been feeling very blessed that my "boys" are all home with their families and out of the military this time around.

I remember that time period very well--I was glued to the TV for a good part of the day. There's been some talk about how "Bush Sr." didn't go all the way for one reason or another. The true reason, which you don't hear much about these days, is the coalition countries said they would pull their troops and support immediately if the US went to the heart of Baghdad.

Imagine if we had done that, saying up yours to the coalition. The Arab countries would have gone nuts--Saudi, despite the fact that the US saved its ass--would have turned off the taps. Just couldn't be done under the circs at the time.

I believe we'll go after Saddam some day but it will be when we have a large amount of irrefutable proof that he's got a stockpile of nasties. Or when he does his first nuclear test.

Yeah well, history keeps repeating itself as we leave jobs half done. Seems the generals wanted to do a bit more in WWII and we lost the stomach for it or something. Personally, I happen to be a passive sort of person who can see that war of any kind never seems to give us a long range solution, but in my life time I have watched us do a great deal of foolish (IMHO) military stuff that leaves me saying "What the hell was that????".

"I believe we'll go after Saddam some day but it will be when we have a large amount of irrefutable proof that he's got a stockpile of nasties."

Books like Judith Miller's "Germs" and Tom Mangold's "Plague Wars" give me all the proof I could want that Iraq has that stockpile.

Yep, me too. I should have said evidence sufficient to convince some allies so that they don't come out and criticize.

...convince some allies so that they don't come out and criticize.

All we gotta do is say, "Yo! You want some of this?" Then move toward them a little.
