How do i use continous shooting and servo AF on my eos 300

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I want to enable continous shooting and/or servo AF on my EOS 300. Ive looked through the manual and it mentions that these modes are available but doesnt make it clear how you are meant to select them. I know that they are available in the sports mode but I want to configure them in the creative part.

HELP!!

you can refer the manual for continuous shooting. setting the camera to those mode compactible with continuous shooting should allow you to do so.

regarding servo AF neither i have any idea. even i would like to know how to do it. i do achieve the *servo AF mode* sometimes by moving the camera constantly (fast enough for the camera to bear the motion) on a fixed stationary subject. later, while pressing the shutter release button half way, point the camera to the desired subject (which may be moving or stationary) to focus it. but this trick is not reproducible easily.

The autofocus of the Rebel 2000/EOS 300 defaults to AI Servo Focus in all the "creative" modes except the A-DEP. It senses if a subject is moving and will track it. Since the camera can only shoot at 1.5 fps, continuous shooting is slow at best. In order for it to work continuously, you have to keep your finger pressing on the shutter button, letting the camera follow the focus. Once you remove your finger, AI Servo Focus stops and the camera has to reacquire the target and start over again.

"I want to enable continous shooting and/or servo AF on my EOS 300..."

You can do that very easily by purchasing an accessory EOS 30 to go with it.

yes jim has a better option. not only you get continuous shooting and/or servo AF you get a lot more than just these two with eos 30 (or eos 33).

to lee,

have you always got the *SERVO AF* at your own will whenever you wanted with a EOS 300. its true that 1.5 fps is too low to use the servo AF focusing mode.

i personally feel EOS 300 is not for that (continuous shooting and servo AF) especially when you think of shooting a sports or action at 1.5fps. theses are just some additional facilities given to that model.

Fair do's! Thanks for that last answer! I was only interested really as the manual stated that these options were configurable for the creative modes but didnt at any point say how you could do it. More an issue of how rather than thinking of why you would! I was most interested in the continous shooting part..

I have actually never used my EOS Rebel 2000 for any purpose which required continuous shooting, reserving that for better configured EOS bodies. Just as an experiment, I took the Rebel with an EF 28- 105 lens and focused on a subject across a large room. As I walked toward it, the camera kept it in continuous focus as long as I held the shutter button. This was in the Manual mode as well as the Aperture priority mode--the only modes I ever use. Seems to work okay. Yesterday I picked up a roll of snapshots I did at a local parade. Most of the subjects were walking toward me, although not at high speed. Using Aperture priority, all the photos were in focus. Seemed to have worked okay then too.

thats a great thing Lee. if its true, then even i can try to use it. i too have a EOS 300/R2K. but never used those modes. thanks even from my side. the continuous shooting is not that important to me. but servo AF is a nice thing. i will surely give it a try.
