Poe's family tree

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

Where can I go to find E. A. Poe's family tree to present to also include his siblings. My Great Grandmother was a Poe and I would like to trace back the relation to him. I was told growing up that he was a thirteenth great uncle. Please help!

Becky,

Regretfully, there has never been any substantive evidence to suggest that Edgar Allan Poe, his older brother, William Leonard Poe, nor his younger sister, Rosalie MacKenzie Poe, ever produced any offspring. Consequently, any lineal consanguinity with Edgar Poe would be impractical to resolve conclusively. However, collateral consanguinity may be possible through a lateral connection to a common ancestor or relative.

You will find several genealogy research sites that could help you establish a connection to a common ancestor but you will find few submitters that are prepared to share documentary proof. You may wish to try one or all of the following:

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Family Search at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp

RootsWeb.com at http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi

Genealogy.com at http://www.genealogy.com/allsearch.html?Welcome=1013614386

Ancestory.com at http://www.ancestry.com/search/main.htm

When searching, be sure to use both spellings of his middle name, ALLEN and the correct one ALLAN.

Good Luck,
