Installation of PWS and registration of Active X objects

greenspun.com : LUSENET : SmartPart Development : One Thread

This is the drill:

just go to CDROM, dir PWS, run setup, choose typical install. If I've done it right you should have the whole thing install without errors. Check you can run MTS explorer - it will be in your Start Menu here: Programs->Accessories->Internet Tools->Personal Web Server->Microsoft Transaction Server. You will need to go to the MTS dir under Ceetak Frames in Explorer and select all the DLLs and drag them into a newly-created package in MTS.

This is really about setting up Smartpart web pages under PWS.

  1. Copy all the files under the tree ceetak_frames on the CDROM to some part of your hard disk (I've got a ceetak dir, with some bits and pieces to do with the database, & I've put it under there).
  2. Go to PWS manager and click the 'Advanced' tab on the bottom. You will be shown a tree with at the root and directories like /IISADMIN and /IISHELP underneath.
  3. click on the 'Add' button on the right while the root of the tree in the lh panel is highlighted.
  4. fill in the directory where you put the ceetak_frames above in the edit box labelled 'Directory' and call it something like 'ceetak' where it asks for an alias.
  5. you should now start the web server - go back to the 'main' tab on the left. Once the server you can type http://localhost into your browser window and you will see some kind of default home dir. If this is OK just go to http://localhost/ceetak (where the last bit is the alias you added above). This should show the smartpart logon screen.
  6. you won't have things going yet, because the connects to the database will fail. You should set up an odbc connection to it, but that is covered elsewhere. 2. Point Personal Web Server to them 3. Point PWS at the SQL server + MTS ? 4. Test 5. Other?
