One of these days I'll get back to photographing people: honest! meanwhile, I thought I'd share a selection of pictures from the Rio carnival that I found on the BBC web site. They all seem to be Associated Press images.

One question: The first picture has a nice rotating blur. Is this a digital effect, or is there a way to achieve that on the film? My tripod head certainly does not allow me to rotate the camera around the lens axis.

Answers

It seems to me that it's just the dancers rotating, with slow-sync flash, although it wouldn't be too hard to do the rotation by hand with a 35mm camera and a short lens.
