off-the-camera flash cable and viewfinder for leica mgreenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
i am using my sf20 flash off the camera with a contax cable. it just works fine, but the problem is though, that i can't use the viefinder for the 21mm lens. is there anything like a hot shoe doubler? the voigtlander one is cold unfortunately. i think bronica just came out with such a thing for their mf rangefinder. i haven't seen it yet and i don't know whether the pins are the same.

Use the Pentax TTL cable system instead. Then you can mount a finder as well.F5P 3' Extension Cord
Hot Shoe Adapter F
Off Camera (Hot) Shoe Adapter F
You have to remove the travel limit on the "Off Camera (Hot) Shoe Adapter F" so that the SF-20 goes all the way on. It is more expensive way to go than the Nikon and Contax cables but it is nice to be able to mount finders.

I noticed you are using a Contax cable. Would this indicate that I could use a Contax flash, specifically the TLA200 on my M6TTL and utilize the TTL capabilities? Do both Contax and Leica use the SCA3000 protocol? If not, what other flash systems can be used with TTL capabilities on the M6TTL.Thanks, Dale Griffith

The only TTL flashes for the M6TTL are the Metz flashes with the right adapter and the SF-20 (also made by Metz). Contax and Nikon and ?? have similar contact locations but not the same functions assigned to those pins and different electronics.

There is a Rowi hotshoe cable with an accessory shoe in the top of the part that fits the camera. However, it does not have TTL contacts, just sync. I've used it without problems, and it also costs a good deal less than Nikon/Contax etc. flash cables.
