Saints Alive - it's a match day thread!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Well, I've been playing Champ Man for 3 hours only for it to crash without me saving any of it. Might as well take my mind of a wasted morning.

I'd got to the CL QF's an'all.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Webcast is already on.....Nice !!!!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

HOWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

The word is that McClen will start along will Distin at leftback !!!

Elliot and Jenas on the bench !!!

I would say it is clever !!! Dont thro the young lad in at first, and keep Robert and Distin happy !!!

Line up should be

Given, Hughes, Dabs, O'Brien, Distin, Solano, McClen, Speed, Robert, Shearer, Bellamy.

Subs: Harper, Jenas, Elliot, Amoebi, Acuna

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Line up confirmed !!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Jenas has #7

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

One article stated that McClen is a geordie is that correct? Was under the impression he ws a Scot??

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

McClen is a Geordie, Derek. So we're starting with 2 on the pitch

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Barry

3 Geordies surely. Nobby Solano?? Have heard the crowd confirm this!!!!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Well, I'm getting the pre-game jitters now.

Personally, I reckon that Bellamy will try to prove a point today and score a hat-trick.

(Pleasepleaseplease...)

If we keep saying optimistic things as opposed to what we're really feeling, maybe we can work some anti-jinx voodoo here...

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Let the nail-biting begin! (:o) Hiya folks.........don`t mind telling you I am feeling a tad sick.....with nerves. COME ON YOU LOVELY LADS - MAKE MY DAY!!! (:O)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Filling in a few moments, here's some proof off the Genealogy web showing there have been McClens in the Toon for hundreds of years: 3. Anne MCCLEN - International Genealogical Index Gender: F Marriage: 26 Jun 1768 All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England 26. Margaret MCCLEN - International Genealogical Index Gender: F Marriage: 15 Nov 1762 All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England

Barry

Think Ill take your word for that!!!

HOWAY THE BONNY LADS

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Good morning from sunny Canada, I had a dream...

...we lost 2-0, having said that I reckon we'll win 2-1.

Derek, where've you been mate?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Is Le Tissier out? I suppose Pahars is playing? They're the main thorns in our side, don't you think. This Wayne Bridge is a left back, isn't he, so up against Nobby, let's see how Nobby does then. By the way, why are there so many 20-30 year old Waynes about?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Bud

Been slightly crook deah fellow all ok now I guess. Bet Canada weather bit of a shock after the FE???

Hows the grape bizzo going??

Off the UK week today for 3 weeks.

Work and leave.

All well??

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

"Outsiders, Newcastle United have the easiest run in", so says the TV :-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Morning all from sunny Baltimore! Nerves have begun. Make my day lads!!!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

What's that music in the background? Where's Local Hero gone?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

I'd like to think the PA being turned up so loud today is someone taking mercy on webcast listeners by drowning out Whatisname.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Nice to hear Local Hero again. :-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

sounded a bit like Blaydon Races...

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Commentator says "Princess Margaret died last night she was seriously ill" - doesn't much more serious than that I suppose Minute's silence

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Del Boy, I'm leaving Canada tomorrow, for Singapore - just managed to get a flight despite Chinese New Year!

South Africa (Cape Town mainly) next weekend as the grapes are ripening, ta mate.

Glad you're on the mend, kick-off imminent!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

You mean the bit just before Local Hero? Carmine Burana(sp?)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Evening all, greetings from Sydney. Bud, I must have watched the same show a couple of hours ago - the first time I've heard media of any sort mention us as being in with even a sniff of a chance....

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

God...if we can shackle Pahars we should be ok. He's got to be their most dangerous player

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

That's the one : Carmen(?) Burana; Like it.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Piece before `local hero` was Carmina Burana (sp). Oh God, they are having a minutes silence for Pricess Margaret. That will increase my anxiety levels even more - I am so worried that some pillock spoils it.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Phew!!!!!!!! HOWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY THE LAAAADDSSSSSSSS!!!!!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Sounded like a couple of pillocks. :-(

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Afternoon from foggy Helsinki. Three points methinks.

Evening all from a warm West Oz. Spent a great day at the beach and me lamb kebabs turned out bonza on the barbie. Lets hope for a triple tonight eh!

Robert seems to be featuring quite a bit.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Doh!! So close!!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Good morning for the airport in sunny Colombia. Just waiting for the to call the flight - 10 mins to go I suppose. In for a nervous 3 hrs to Miami till I can find out the score

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

All Newcastle so far Ken. Bellamy & Robert sounding lively. Saints just fluffed a decent chance though.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

yep its OK in Sunny Manchester

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Yeah, no problems here. Apart from the idiot commentator constantly asking questions (can he cross, finish etc). If I knew the answers I wouldn't have to listen to the f*$kwit.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Loud and clear for me, Sounder. Complete with meaningless commentary. Nameless clown asking questions, Mick Martin thinking we look weak at the back. ooooo!! Almost got one!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

We're only up by 2, Bud. Not time to count any chickens hatching yet. But I think I see some beaks poking through a few of those eggs. ;-)

I say, "attack, attack, attack"!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

I was getting worried for a minute. ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Especially when Soton just pushed those beaks back into the egg shells

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Aw Sh!t.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

2-1

Sloppy according to Mr Martin

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

DAVIS CUP dan! That's a great result.

"Alan Shearer has just scored for Newcastle", Canadian TV, 10 mins. late, still 2-0?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Have Soton ever come back from 2-0 down this season?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Anybody else lost the webcast?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Wey, you can't win 4-3 without letting the opposition score.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Heskey scoures. Pool 2 ahead.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Oh $h!t, I'm gonna shut my beak for a while :-(

Bellamy chopped down by Lundekvam. Shearer to take. 3-1; 12 goals in 12 games

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Good timing! Geddin!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Just after Martin bags Distin he plays the ball through for Bellamy and penalty!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Galaxy... there's a bottle of ice cold Krug for you on the table

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

12 goals in 12 games for AS. Not bad for an 'old man' who was basically written off by the 'experts' at the start of the season :-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

How. Just been listening to the first half in the bath. You know that game at fetes where you have to guess the number of sweets in a jar? You could do the same thing with guessing how many times this commentator will say "clever piece of play" (especially when said clever play counts for precisely nothing) during the course of 90 minutes.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Oops, meant Davis Cup obvishly. And bizarrely, just typed 'David' again. Bellamy and Robert in my fantasy league team - howay boys!

WE ARE TOP'THE LEAGUE!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Geordie, sorry to take so long, had to answer a relli in the States on ICQ, can I have a nice semillon - sauvignon blanc please. Very cold its quite warm here innit hiro!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

More chicken counting, but it sure looks good at http://www.sportinglife.com/football/live/tables/premiership.html

Chelsea losing. Can't Boro do something about out-of-form Leeds too?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Afternoon Mr. Maier.

I reckon me and Nick Brownlee should chip in toward that fiver you obviously coughed up to Friends Reunited.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

And we nearly always do better in the 2nd half than in the 1st, so let's boost our goal difference even further ahead. Plus we're now beyond 50 goals and 2nd highest scorers in the division after overtaking Arsenal

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Cheers Geordie! I`ll save it till the end of the match! (:o)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Barton playing for Derby. Lee has made a quick return from his injury ???? Debut for Lee !

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Well I just had EGGS and bacon, etc. and Shearer got the pen!

The Manc tw@ts will be $h!***ng themselves now, esp. as the Scousers are cruising to victory :-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

That's Ipswich Ciara.... they WERE the form team in the prem. Sky say Liverpool are playing great

Stupid Ipswich!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Liverpool 4...

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

I`m not sure that I wouldn`t rather have another goal (to us) before Jenas comes on.

"Bellamy! Puts it in!.......to the side net." BARSTEWARD

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Afternoon all

just in. Looking good just need 3 more goals and super Ipswich comeback. Sky Sports getting excited at the thought of L'Pool going top on goal diff.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

That's alright...takes the pressure off us cause it'll stop all the crazy talk of us going to the top and winning. ;-))

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Chelsea equalised

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Ahhhh....that's what we need. Toon Army singing loud enough to drown out Whatisface. :-D

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

true Ciara.... noone will notice our game in hand

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Sporting Life (Live tables) still show us as top, equal goal difference, must be 'cos we've played a game less?

oh oh...

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

We've probably scored more goals than Liverpool

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Although I HATE correcting you Bud, it is because we have scored more goals.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Owen scores. 0-5 for Pool.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Liverpool go top - 5-0.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Liverpool 5

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Trouble is .. all these teams like Liverpool and Man Utd keep winning away, which means we have to do the same

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Now you know why I said "oh oh", YMO's second goal was schoolboy stuff :-(

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

One game at a time. The game in hand means nothing if we don't keep winning.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Howay lads, let's get Shearer his hat trick! You know it makes sense!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Think it's canny that we're working out goal difference / goals scored to see who goes top tonight!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Come on, one more for us and one for Ipswich!!!

gus, I heard your snigger ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Mary Ann Pahars??

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Whenever you mention things like this you get crucified, however this is the difference between teams like Liverpool and manure. When they play the bottom teams they hammer them, improving their goal difference. We struggle to beat them. Although they get the 3 points we SHOULD be burying teams like Bolton, Leicester, Derby and Southampton.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Player #7 please come in..

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

No pressure or anything, Jermaine, welcome and all that, but.....would you mind scoring a goal or 3 today please? Ta.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Sunderland one up at Derby

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Come on JJ Goal on your debut!!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

What a welcome for Jenas! (:o)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

...and SUNDERLAND!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

ARGH!!! Solano shoots..saved!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

How long left lads 'n lasses?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Does anyone miss as many chances as us?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Andy Cole used to (for Manure)!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Gus, all of the big clubs have dropped points against some of the mediocre teams this season, without exception. For instance, I'm pretty certain we're the only team in the top half dozen who have beaten Bolton twice.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Just come back in -
Shagz - glad to see NB is benefitting from yr extensive ON photo library.
Bud - when I say 'match', i mean the doubles match this afternoon. I hesitate to say 'rubber' as it sounds stupid.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

...Liverpool away on Weds March 6 should be interesting. If Bobby could magic a result there after all that's gone before at Anfield...

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Yes I know that ADK, however we shouldn't. Dropping points is different than being played off the park by the likes of Wast Ham and others.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

OK dan, I'll 'erase' my comment, unfortunately I read it as match as in rubber ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Not really - goal difference is effectively only worth a point, and only in certain circumstances. 1 point over 38 games - not something to get too worked up about. Obviously I reserve the right to change my tune when we miss out on the title on goal difference!!!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Boro equalise again v Leeds: 2-2.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

not long to go... phew!! Pahars just shoots wide.

come on lads... one more to make it decent scoreline ... I predicted 4

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

If Manure doesn't walk away with it, I really think this year's title will come down to goal difference

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

;-) ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Full time: Ipswich 0 Liverpool 6.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Ipswich 0 Liverpool 6 all over

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Nit picking I know, however a good performance and a good thrashing of a bottom team will do wonders for morale and team spirit. Not to mention fan spirit!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

I assume McClen went off for Jenas... is he playing right midfield

Liverpool 6 up

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Ipswich were cr@p, schoolboy stuff (0-6) :-(

Manure WILL not walk away with it, we, L'pool and the Ar$e will all be there / thereabouts + the Champions League starts again soon.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Does anyone know the final Liverpool score? ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

What about wor final score?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

3 points.... see ya all!

We will win all our remaining games ... so no problems!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Goes to show how far we've come when 3 points isn't quite enough....now we want more goals! ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Gus are you talking about us or Liverpool?

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Sorry Bud, I've lost track. Isn't this the Liverpool match thread? ;- )

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Finished 3-1 Bud.

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Phew! I`ll take those three points and might just crack open that champagne Geordie. You can go into work on Monday with your head up high!

Thanks for the company folks. (:o)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

We're 9 POINTS AHEAD of the 6th team. And 8 ahead of 5th. The Top 4 are pulling away

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

See yah guys

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Webcast still thinks Villa are leading???

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Right, 4am in Sydney, time for bed. Cheers for the company lads & lasses. 3 more points in the bag!! By the way, in case anyone didn't know, Alan Shearer went into today's game as the top English goalscorer in the premiership (behind Henry & Hasselbaink). Looks like he's still there!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Aye - good news from today is Leeds and Chelsea drawing. For those less optimistic amongst us still thinking about the CL rather than the title, it's been a decent day!

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

ADK, and what about Van the Horse? ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

temporary Media darlings:

Back to normal:

SIX OF THE BEST! Emile Heskey scored twice as Liverpool romped to the top of the Premiership with an astonishing 6-0 win at Ipswich. Newcastle meanwhile beat Southampton 3-1.

Sporting Life

-- Anonymous, February 09, 2002

Talking about us and the fact that we cannot put away teams at the bottom. The resultant moral boost for everyone. Not to mention the goal difference!
