Pin Cushion/Spool holder.....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Cooking & Crafts : One Thread

Use cap from hair spray bottle. Fill with plaster of paris. While wet, plase small dowl stick in center (long enough to hold 2 spools thread. Crochet cover for cap area.

2 spools thread plus top for thimble to rest and the crochet cover makes great place to store pins and needles.

Varigated 4-ply yarn makes very nice covers for the cap area.

Crochet chain of 6, join in first ch, ch 3, dc several times to make nice flat circle. Ch 3, Dc in each st and increase off and on to keep circle flat. Repeat until size of bottom of cap. Continue dc in each st until tall enough to cover cap. Tie off.

You could fill cap 2/3 full with plaster paris and when dry make pin cushion top or place a circle of smooth cardboard over plaster paris so spool of thread will move smooth as thread is pulled off.
