Olympics

Just a reminder that the Olympics starts tonight. Opening ceremony is at 6:00 EST I believe. I like the Winter Games. Brady can't wait to watch the luge, and sledding events, he is fascinated. I like the figure skating also.

Melissa - I really am looking forward to the Olympics. The figure skating is my favorite. My older daughter did Jr. Olympics in 1994. She also skated Nationals and has a 4th place in Novice Dance (you don't see this level on TV.) But I've volunteered at competitions up thru Nationals. Got to round up Tara Lapinski, and group for their metals when she won. Timothy Goebel has competeed at our rink a couple of times, I've met several of the others. And Jon from Birmingham AL use to be just another kid and best friend of one of our skaters.

It's fun knowing the skaters some. I also have sewn competition ice skating outfits for about 10 years.

By the way, the day before Nancy got whacked on the knee, my daughter had competed at the same rink.

That's all my bragging about knowing people.

Never been a big deal for me. Over hyped event, over priced events. The olympic council has gotten out of hand. They hold an event and my tax dollar go to fund the security for it.

My family is looking forward to watching. We really like winter sports. Tom was stationed at Hill A.F.B. and we loved Utah. Friends have been sending us pictures of the all the different sites where the events are being held. Brings back some really good memories.

I enjoy most of the Olympics. But the one thing I don't enjoy, and for that matter in other sports and politics, too,is the announcers telling us who will probably win and who won't, I'd just as soon find out for myself.

We'll be sitting out the Olympics this time-we don't pick up Fox-we rarely watch tv anyway. (we didn't think about the Olympics when we gave up tv-oh well)! I allways liked the figure skating and luge. Actully, to be honest, what I really like about the Olympics are the cool sweaters worn by the Scandinavian teams-some of these patterns are featured in Patternworks. My sister was a volenteer in Atlanta-that was pretty cool. I trully hope that the games go on without any problems. My husband is a little worried that with all the security focused on the Olympics, the terrorists may attack someplace else. I just hope and pray that this will be a peacefull event.

Eldest is part of a group practicing to perform in opening ceremonies for Paralympics this spring. They were given free tickets to the dress rehearsal for tonight's opening ceremonies. He said they froze to death, but, of course, the event was spectacular. He especially enjoyed the "pow-wow"--the performance by the Utah Indian tribes.

I had thought, being so close, he might want to attend some of the other Olympic events, until I found out how much they cost!! Can't even imagine someone laying down $900 for a chance to freeze to death watching tonight's show. But, we'll catch it on tv. I'm not a sports fan, though, and really couldn't care less who wins stuff. I sometimes enjoy the figure skating.

Kelly they are on NBC this time (I think!) We only get CBS, NBC, and sometimes PBS.

We don't watch much TV either, but I do appreciate all of the hard work these young people put in to make it this far.
