Confucius say: He who speak with false tongue will end up pushin' up Daisys you S.O.B. One more rumor and I'll put a cap in yo head with my "9" mo fo.

OK maybe that's not appropriate .... just kidding. I'm drawing a blank.

Hey, how about the old mentality of the Old Testament ... eye for an eye or something like if you have a wandering eye, pluck it from your head. You probably know the verses or can look it up .... basically saying to cut your tongue out if you lie.

IMHO, all you are going to do is to get in a shouting match with your neighbor. A. Either ignore them (which often really pisses people off) or B. Get confirmation (i.e., witnesses) and sue for either slander or defamation of character.

I have always heard "not to argue with an idoit-- it makes it hard to tell which one he is"! It sounds like they are trying to draw attention away from their family/problems and 'throw' the attention in another direction! Everyone will see this (sooner or later). "you can fool some of the people, some of the time but you can't fool all the people, all the time" or something like that! Good luck.

Something like: (this aint a quote, just the general gist of a religious/ biblical "quote") They can see the mote in their neighbor's eye, but fail to reguard the plank in their own. Means they can see all you do down to the most insignifigant thing, but ignore their own faults and shortcomings, no matter how large. I believe it also to mean: bug off.

Matthew 12:36 "But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgement for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquited and by your words you will be condemned."

Proverbs 26:28 "If a man digs a pit, he will fall into it; if a man rolls a stone, it will roll back on him."

James 1:26 "If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless."

But something for you to keep in mind is Proverbs 26:11 "As a dog returns to it's vomit, so a fool repeats his folly." It is highly unlikely that anything you say to this neighbor is going to make him change. Don't join in your neighbor's folly and add to the dissension. Far better to keep quiet and try to remain at peace. Your neighbor will bring himself down.

Never argue with a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig enjoys it.

I'd ignore them. People such as they are, get their kicks if you give them the least bit of indication that they are getting to you.

I would supply you with a list of quotes from the Book that is unmentionable on this forum. But I just got a post edited on another string for speaking of that unmentionable subject. So I better not get involved here. Sorry. Maybe Ken can help you out of his book of bylaws.

thanks , If the rumors are un true and they speak rumors about other people, then why care.Everyone must know the rumors are untrue.Your real friends won't care and why care what your ememies think, they have their own rumors about you.Be patient be friendly stay at speaking terms with them , not preaching terms, they will wear themselves out and people will close their ears when they gossip.

Right from the Top Ten: Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

People like these are a pain in the butt to deal with, makes me thankful yet again that we have some good friendly neighbours.

Unintelligent people talk about other people, middle IQ people talk about things, and wise people talk about ideas. People that are constantly talking about other people bother me because I know that if they talk about others behind their backs, they talk about me behind mine. As for this pain in the ass, I would probably reply with some obvious sarcasm the next time they were spreading their manure and make myself scarce.
