What did everyone do while the BBS was down?

Pete's comments at the other place (before it too crashed) re celeb hairdresser Daniel Galvin prompted me to have a look at his website. Canny posh barbers - but no pole. How unlike Henry's in the toon. Is Henry's still there?

Speaking of barbers/hairdressers where does everyone go to get their ears lowered?? Me? I used to go to shapes on Newton Rd, only because it was next door to a ladies hair do place and they used to get some canny lookin' tackle in of a friday neet.

How much does it cost to get your hair cut if you're a man. My other half won't pay more than £5! I recently paid £90 (yes £90) for a haircut at a 'top' Manchester salon. Yes of course I am insane.

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2002

Brussels cheapest about 5 pounds, Quickie in Barcelona 2 pounds 50p, Toon about 5 too. I only go in ones where you just walk in, sit down and they start snipping straight away. If you can make an appointment, I cross them off the list.

£4-50 might sound reasonable for a haircut, but for a no.1 ?

Mind, I once vowed I'd stop drinking if the price of a pint ever reached ten bob.

Then £1.

Then £2.

Still, I managed a post and a bit of lurking on the other place until the bandwidth got all used up.

I was listening to the radio and they were talking about online auction sites. They had a call from a Rik in North Shields talking about a fake security camera he'd seen on one - sound faniliar? Nowt like plugging your own stuff!

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2002

Buy some hair clippers. £15 and free from there on in.

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2002

Ninety f***in' quid!!! Cor blimey missus. I hope it was worth it. I reckon £4-5 is about right for a bloke-job. For £90, I'd expect a........... well, a bit more.

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2002

Alternatively Softie, you could let nature take her course and join the Good Doctor, Mysterious and me with a "natural number 1".

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2002

I once went to a hairdressers in Shantou, China and got a haircut and a bit more for less than a fiver!

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2002

Tell us about the "bit more".

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2002

Howay Mark, spill the beans. p.s. Hope you, your brothers and the 3 women had a great festive period.

-- Anonymous, February 06, 2002

Are you checking up on me Benton ;-) Perhaps I should set up a web cam like the Crown Licquor Saloon in Belfast, for those duller days.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

my local greek barber will crop the mop for about a fiver - this includes a few snips up the nostrils and ears! service eh.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

bloke-job??

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

Screach - £3-80 at John's in Rothbury (next to the Trophy shop).
Plus in depth conversation aboot the Lads - topics from about 1950 onwards.
Before the Peterboro match I got a complete run down of all previous cup matches between the two teams.
Nowt like it.
Mind, the place is usually heaving with locals and each haircut/chat can be up to 20 minutes

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

Glad you managed to type that correctly Screach 'bloke job' Fnar

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

Cheers True. I tend to veer towards Alnwick rather than Rothbury mesel'. It's actually £3:80 there as well in the unisex salon opposite the bus station (too much information???). Actually, I was staggered (yes, really) to find so many establishments in Alnwick catering for bloke-jobs. There's one at almost every turn.

Still waiting to hear what Lynda got for her ninety(k)nicker and as for MT, well, the mind can only boggle.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

Howay Screach, I've actually got a very full head of hair, thick as well. I'm told I could be mistaken for Bruce Willis (rather than Dr. Bill) from a distance, I just choose to have it cut 'a la recede' to give me an (h)air of maturity. Well, someone on here has to. And it's cheap an all. Once a fortnight my missus does it for me in the kitchen for free. Er, that'll be quiet enough of that, before the fnarr fnarr postings kick in.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

For £90 I got a consultation with a 'top stylist' and then a mixture of subtle highlights and lowlights applied by a 'colour consultant' and then a cut and blow dry (yes that's DRY) with said stylist. Free cappucino and er that's it.

It was NOT worth it it has to be said. I just haven't got the type of hair that responds well to styling!!!!!! The best thing was, during my many complaints about my unruly locks, the stylist said ' you have to learn to love your hair'.!!!!!!! What rubbish.

From your very own celeb spotter: Gareth from Pop Idols has just gone in for a snip at Daniel Galvin's.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

D-d-d-daniels ?

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

Who's Gareth, Daniel or Galvin and what's Pop Idols?

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

Gareth is Gareth Gates, son of Eric Gates. Daniel Galvin is Tony's brother. No idea what Pop Idols is. ;-)

The paparazzi are in on this one by the looks. There's about 5 of the milling around. The excitement's too much. Will it be a total new look? What colour will his hair be?

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

How dull. Didn't look any different to me. Obviously a few hundred well spent then Gareth.

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

Pete...you've gotta get that web cam set up. Does Simon Cowell get his seventies-styli there?

-- Anonymous, February 07, 2002

...and as night follows...who needs OK or Hello mag when you've got the BBS? Perhaps we could launch a spin-off mag called "Haway!" Sun Bizarre column today:

HAIR’S a toughie — spot the difference between my before and after snaps of Gareth going for a haircut.

Don’t worry. I can’t see any change either — though his trim was hardly a snip at £70.

Jumping from a chauffeur-driven limo at MADONNA’s favourite London hairdresser Daniel Galvin, Gareth vowed: “Get rid of my spikes? No way.”

I’m not one to split hairs but it looks like he didn’t get rid of much at all.

£5 including tip at the Black & White barbers in Hebburn Newtown. The hat stand falls over when you hang your coat on in you have loose change in your pocket. (Probably a distraction while they're showing you a photo of the back of somebodies head in the mirror type frame whilst nodding approvingly)

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2002

I usually go to Tony & Guy's at Durham or Newcastle. Men's cut is about £26. But for that you get a lush 16yr old lass massaging your head...(don't be smutty). Never underestimate the glory of a pert bosom within inches of yer face ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2002

Bobby, have you put on weight since I last saw you or are yuo on a course of hormone tablets?? I hadn't realised you'd got a pert bosom.

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2002

Mate, if blerks had proper lass breasts they never leave the house :-)

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2002

Ah - Lady bumps. I remember them ;-)

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2002

Tina Charles wasn't it?

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2002

Something for the weekend, Sir?

Who'd have thought we could dedicate a whole thread to hairdressing ;- )

-- Anonymous, February 08, 2002

I was think more of Spitting Image, Gus.
