A sparkling two-goal return to form at the weekend will only have heightened the English interest in Socceroo winger Brett Emerton, but his father confirmed yesterday he will not be changing clubs until next season. While Emerton's Dutch club, Feyenoord, has made it clear it will listen to offers, it has no intention of releasing him this season. Feyenoord's football director, Rob Baan, confirmed as much to the Emerton family during his recent visit to Australia. "Feyenoord are definitely willing to sell Brett, but he will not be going anywhere this season," Mick Emerton said. "For starters, they're still a big chance to win the championship and they're still in the UEFA Cup, so the fans wouldn't take kindly to them releasing Brett at this stage. "And the other thing is, I don't know if Brett would want to go to England right now anyway. He really likes the club and the fans, and he wants to stay and help them win things before he goes." Emerton scored twice against Socceroo teammate and goalkeeper Zeljko Kalac in a 5-0 drubbing of Roda JC Kerkrade on Sunday, a win that kept Feyenoord in third place, three points behind leaders Ajax Amsterdam with a game in hand. Ajax won 3-1 at Willem II Tilburg to pass PSV Eindhoven in the title race. British scouts will have their next opportunity to assess Emerton when Feyenoord travel to Glasgow for a UEFA Cup tie against Rangers on February21. Valued at about $20million, Emerton is being courted by Arsenal, Leeds United, Liverpool and Newcastle United, and according to his father has no preference.
