YBR at teamsquawk: "I would have no hesitation in playing him in the first team, he goes straight into the squad for Saturday. He is ready."

Is he? 30-odd starts of Nationwide football, trained once with the Toon, and he is ready to play for a top premiership side in front of 50k fans. Some lad.

Forest fans bemoaning his departure on Sky Sports. Sounds like a great passer, he's captained the side as has been mentioned elsewhere, and one fan described his pace as 'electric'.

That's all we need, another quick midfielder. What happened to the good old days of Roy Aitken and Billy Askew?

From a Forest fan:

Newcastle have signed a quality player.....

....in JJ - Jermaine Jenas. I have followed the career of J for many years now, and knew that the first time I saw him (in a youth warm up game when he was about 15, he controlled a ball that went up 50 odd metres spinning, on the outside of his foot and flicked it over his head - in one move) he would be quite special. It's a huge blow to lose him at Forest, but I'm sure the geordies will look after him, and hopefully take him into their hearts. JJ is a Forest kid through and through, born and bred, fan, academy product and our youngest ever captain. I wish him well (with more than a tinge of sadness!!)

He continues....

To be fair, all his goals have been quality, but the one where he skipped through a defence of about 5 players and toe- poked past the keeper was probably my favorite. For those of you that don't know much about JJ, his playing style is very similar to Vieira, strong in the tackle, fantastic balance and poise, runs with the ball at pace, and his finishing is really very good. I say again, Newcastle have signed a quility player.

So is he any good?

-- Anonymous, February 05, 2002

So what's going on with the pitch in the background? I thought it had been relayed in time for the match against Bolton? Are they still working on it? Is this a composite photo? Or was it taken 10 days ago?

He's got really long arms.

You're on form today Nick

;O))

So are you gonna answer my email then ?

Sounder, I think the 'worn' bit was the old new bit, if you see what I mean. Curiously, Newcastle and the immediate region was the diest region in the country over Xmas / January. Yet SJP still produces the ploughed field look week in and out. The only solution is for NUFC to pop over to Amsterdam and purchase a giant sized 'grow-lamp' kit.

Yep - that's the way the pitch was on Saturday. They'd have relaid the rest but FS had to raid the groundsman's kitty to pay the extra bit for JJ. Divvent fear tho - it'll aal be sh!te in a couple of weeks what with 3 home games in 3 weekends :-(

Actually, looking at that pic again, JJ is standing right next to my seat. Class act!!

I thought it was a doctored photo till i saw the photo session on sky sports. He does look somewhat...not to scale, doesn't he?

-- Anonymous, February 05, 2002

Probably taken with a wide-angle lens to fit in all the stadium thus making his arms look longer!

-- Anonymous, February 05, 2002

If you look carefully at the far end of the older, newly relaid turf (if you get what I mean), they appear to have dug a strip up. Surely that'll be cutting up during the game. Just where their full back will be being turned inside out by Bellamy ;-)

The New Angel of the North??

-- Anonymous, February 05, 2002

Stop press: I've just superimposed this picture over Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, and a) yes, he's actually pretty much in proportion, b) yes, i have too much time on my hands. Sadly I don't have the tech know-how to post the picture on here, but it's quite satisfying.

You mean JJ has 4 legs and arms?

-- Anonymous, February 05, 2002

Ok pedants, 4 legs AND 4 arms ;-p

-- Anonymous, February 05, 2002

Speaking of Pedants, a nice one-liner from Barry Cryer on Countdown yesterday. His University Lecturer asked him who led the Pedant's Revolt? Answer - Which Tyler!

(One for the British only I think)

We've been dreaming of the past. Now wor hearts are beating fast, In the past we lost control, And it wasn't very drole,
He didn't mean to hurt us, I'm sorry that they saw us cry, He didn't want to hurt us, Now we've got a Jenas guy,
I was feeling insecure, We might not win things any more, I was shivering inside, I was shivering inside,
We were trying to catch ManUre, Thought that we were trying to hide, I was swallowing my pain, There were go trophies we would gain.
But now we've got the Jenas guy.

Whistles off into the distance..............................

Well his name worries me a bit. EroJenas Zone, HomoJenas. I don't want to go there.

-- Anonymous, February 05, 2002
