Our geese don't lay eggs??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

We have two gray geese. They are two years old and have not layed any eggs. We ordered a male and female, and they definitely behave as such. They have a large pen and shelter. We feed them layer pellets and whatever greens we have. Any Suggestion?

We have geese as well and they only lay in the spring into early summer. We have one pair that will set, but the others lay eggs where ever they are at the moment (like all over the yard and pasture). They didn't lay until they were well over a year old and maybe older (I can't remember). Make sure they are getting enough calcium - oyster shell works for that. They will lay sooner or later - just not when you expect it.

Many of the larger breeds of geese don't start laying until they are 2 years old. We've had Pomeranians & Chinese lay at 1 year but most not until they are older. Also, at least here in MN, geese are seasonal layers and don't start to lay until Feburary/March or so and only through about June.
