It's getting tight at the top...........

..........and I'm not talking about any items of my clothing!

Leeds 0 -3 Liverpool with 15 mins to go. This closes the gap between 'pool and us, both being on the same number of points woith us holding a 6 goal advantage at the beginning of play today. However, that is now currently ut to 3. Come on Leeds. May be too late for you to get a point but a goal or two would be rather useful.

B0110X. YMO hit a 4th in injury time. Leeds were truly outstanding......in their mediocrity. With a bit of luck, that game will have dropped them from the leading pack.

It wasn't so much Liverpool playing brilliantly, more Leeds being utter cack in every department.

Their midfield was atrocious, David Batty was a revelation in his lack of any sort of talent at all. Liverpool deserved it, but they didn't attack enough to deserve a 4-0 win.

Suppose thats a reasonable result if were aiming for the top 4?

Thinking the same, Spud - if we're to finish in a CL place we have to 'pick off' one of the top four. Realistically it's one of Liverpool or Leeds, the latter now seem the target.

We've go a game in hand on 'pool. I think Chelsea are more of a danger than Leeds

Me too Geordie. Remember that Top 6 League that someone did? well Chelsea are top of it, which says something. Liverpool are now second and we're third. I think if Leeds continue along their recent form, it's between the current top 5 - ManUtd, Us, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea. Who's going to be the one to slide down? I don't know whether the Champion's League extra games burden is going to affect the others, but that would be be good for Chelsea and us. The top 6 all have two top 6 games left to play - we have Arsenal (h) and Liverpool (a). In other (non top 6) games, a win and a loss is better than 2 draws 'cos you get 3 points instead of 2, but for these 6 pointers, two draws are better as we at least prevent our direct rivals getting the extra points. Still, it's great to be able to call these teams our "direct rivals".

re: Chelsea. I keep looking at the table and wishing we'd won that bloody game at Christmas. it could yet prove v important..

-- Anonymous, February 03, 2002

Or indeed that home match against Liverpool, although Chelsea were there for the taking, and with a bit of luck against Cudicini we could have beaten them.

-- Anonymous, February 03, 2002

Saving grace might be that Chelsea still have to play Liverpool and ManU. They've also got 3 London Derbys (Spurs, Charlton, Fulham.

"Liverpool are back in the Championship race, just behind Manchester United", says the tw@t on Fox TV, WHAT ABOUT US YOU **** and who's got a game in hand???

:-(

I always thought Leeds might go all the way, they've no CL commitments + they're out of the Cup, Chewsea are above them now.

-- Anonymous, February 03, 2002

...or Shay didn't have butter fingers on the opening day of the season, v. Chewsea :-(

Anyway that's football, just look at some of Farthez's bloopers!

Anyone notice O'Dreary today? He looked dreadful - he's aged about 10 years over the last 3 months. He actually looks ill.

Leeds were very poor today, but The Thug, Lee Bowyer, was pathetic - how he wasn't subbed I'll never know.

He had some operation on his nose to replace a rotten part of it, which gave him two black eyes.

Either that or he is covering up something.
