my brother recently offered to change cameras with me, I have an eos rebel G and he has an eos 100. is this a good trade???

The EOS 500n/Rebel G is newer, has three autofocus sensors, is smaller and has better options for external flash. The EOS 100/Elan only has one autofocus sensor but it is better constructed, is easier to operate with the quick control dial on the back and has more options. It also has a much faster motor and is quieter. The Rebel G is a nice beginner's camera, but the EOS 100 is better in most regards. On the used market they often sell for about the same amount, but I'd rather shoot with the 100.
