Today, February 2, we members of the Catholic Church family celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple.
We also honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Adalbald of Ostrevant (Belgian, duke, son of a saint, husband of a saint, father of four saints, devoted to pious works, c. 652)
St. Adeloga of Kitzingen (French, princess, Benedictine abbess, c. 745)
St. Apronian (Roman, executioner, converted by a martyr, martyred c. 304)
St. Columbanus of Ghent (Irish, abbot in Belgium, hermit, d. 959)
St. Cornelius (Roman, centurion in Palestine, baptized with family by St. Peter [Acts 10], bishop, 1st century)
St. Feock (Irish?, virgin)
St. Flosculus of Orléans (French, bishop, c. 480)
Sts. Fortunatus, Felician, Firmus, and Candidus (early martyrs)
St. Jeanne de Lestonnac (French, mother of seven, widow, visionary, foundress and superior of Sisters of the Company of Mary, d. 1640 [canonized 1949])
Sts. Bruno of Ebsdorf, Marquard, and companions (German ... duke, bishop, noblemen, and soldiers ... martyred by pagan invaders in 880)
Bl. Peter Cambiano of Ruffia [Pietro] (Italian, Dominican priest, inquisitor general, martyred with daggers by Waldensian heretics in France in 1365)

If you have anything to share about these holy people, please reply now -- biographical episodes, prayers through their intercession, the fact that one is your patron saint -- whatever moves you. If you are interested in one of these saints and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
God bless you.
John

Today's Feast of the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple is informally known as "Candlemas" in some places.

During one period of time in the history of the Catholic Church's liturgical calendar, this day was celebrated as "the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary," but this is no longer true.
