Thank Goodness for those Mountains

When one flies over the Appalachians (sp?) as I have many times, they look like stubby little things, but once again they have come through for me, diverting a nasty storm up into NY and New England. In the DC area, we basically got nothing (a bit of rain), while New England got hit hard.

My brother and his wife live in Amherst Mass and they are continually getting ice and snow, while I get none. To add to my sense of cosmic justice, I inherited my Dad's internal temperature control system (superlative) while he inherited my Mother's (nonexistent).

Temperature control! Try menopause! Ha! Y'ever wonder why those middle-aged women are out there in short sleeves and shorts when the temperature is in the 4os? That's why!

Yes, we love the mountains too. THey keep a lot of bad weather away from us--you can see it breaking up as it hits the mountains. Funny thing, when we lived in Norfolk, thunderstorms would often break up within a mile of where we lived--seriously! Norfolk is just about dead flat so terrain didn't explain it. However, the spot in question contains the Norfolk Navy base and I always thought the heat generated by all the high-density offices, housing and ships accounted for the phenomenon. Either that or the Navy has some secret weather weapon!

Everything was coated in ice here yesterday. Quite beautiful.

Everything still coated in ice. Not sure how the shrubs will fare if it doesn't melt soon.
