Ice, no power and lots of people

Well Montogomery County Kansas where I live has been deamed by the Govenor a desaster area and in a state of emergency! Duh!!!!!!!! Most of the small towns around us haven't had power for going on 4 days now. We have been lucky. We were some of the only ones with power, heat and water. Yesterday I had 16 people and children here to bath, feed and stay warm. I will say it has been like an ongoing party here! People stopping for coffee and food then going back out and cleaning up. The chicken yard is gone. We have huge old trees around the buildings, but not much any more. So far we have lost about 100 limbs the size of cars and tractors on the property. Garage has a hole in roof,(we did go out and salvage the wood stove to use), chicken coop and yard gone(chickens don't seem to be bothered. I usually get 20 eggs a day, but for the last 3 have been getting about 30!), the work truck in under the big pecan tree, and I don't mean parked under, I mean UNDER!. The geese lost everything but the bathtub shelter and the new fences we spent most of this summer putting up around the parimeters are laying down. Good news- all are safe, healthy, warm, well feed and we have lost no livestock!! We are more blessed then most. Our neighbors to the north about 5 miles will not even get power until Monday! Needless to say I am so far behind reading on the forum but I will have to catch up later. I need to go put on the potatoe soup and make some cornbread and coffee for supper tonight. God Bless and hope everyone is safe!

Wow, Micheale, what a week you've had! I'm glad you didn't lose power, but I'm so sorry about your trees, and all that Fencing!!! Those ice storms can do so much damage! I'm glad though that you are all right and that you are safe now. I'll be thinking about you and your family.

God Bless you, I'm so glad none of you have been hurt. This is such a wierd year for weather! It was warmer outside (here in Maryland) than it was inside the house today. Now the winds are blowing the cold in.

We had one of those ice storms a few years back. The oak trees just came down all over the place. The sycamores just rode it out, with out loseing a limb. So that is what is planted now. We had a generator that ran off propane, And it lasted the two weeks our power was out. I under stand your problem, and so sorry about all your cars and the poor chickens, I quess as long as they have a place to roost they couldn"t care less. So happy your all safe, and have Elect. The weather is really crazy, snow in San Diego, And hot in New york.Take care.

God bless you Micheale. Can't imagine cleaning up after all that. I am so glad you are safe and sound and so are your animals. The rest can be fixed.

It has been strange weather. While you are getting all that, here in VA we had record highs yesterday of 75 degrees. We had the windows open and the ceiling fans on. The spring tulips are up, and orchard is starting to bud. I am really worried we will lose the orchard when it gets cold again. I am sure when we are suppose to be planting the garden we will be snowed under and be getting our winter then.

Again, best of luck, Micheale. Our family is remembering all of you out there with so much damage in prayer.

Oh my! That reminds me of my younger days in Northern Maine! Had a state trooper come to get me one night for an emergency at the hospital..he shoveled out the DOOR for me and I had to stand on a chair with snowshoes on to climb out onto the driveway..hee heehee..I recall that fondly now, but not then! How wonderful that all are safe and finding warmth and comfort in your home. I just know that all those folks will be there when the ice is gone to help you all repair your garage and coop and cut those trees for firewood...Aren't good neighbors great? Bless you sweetie, you are doing "a work"..

Hang in there Micheale. I am sure that many people are being blessed by your efforts. It will be tough to do all the clean up. I hope everyone stays warm and healthy through all this. God Bless you and your family, and keep looking on the bright side!

Michelle, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm so glad no one was hurt and glad you still have electricity. How nice of you to let so many come to your place to eat and clean up. God bless you.
