who buys broccoli plants and how much do you pay?

I am wondering if anyone here buys their broccoli plants instead of planting by seed. and what do you usually pay for them. Does $1.69 for 4 plants, about 5 to 6 inches tall seem fair price.

That is consistant with other bedding plants at our co-op.

My wife works at the local greenhouse down the road and they were asking 1.10 for 6 plants last year. She said that their prices are always under what bigger places charge though.

I haven't yet gotten around to building a seed starting outfit like I want so anything that really needs to be started indoors I'll usually buy started plants for (but by next year things may be different!).

I just bought broccoli plants and paid 89 cents for a three pack. I thought this was a bit high because I was buying them at a local nursery (I like to support dedicated nurseries) but when I stopped at Lowes they had nine packs for nearly three dollars. The nursery was acually a few cents cheaper per plant.

Here in Gainesville, FL I'd look around a bit more at that price.

Broccoli should be easy to grow from seed. I did buy plants from Wal- Mart reasonably as my garden area wasn't ready in time.

broc is so fast to grow, it comes up in about 2 days indoors. i buy one of those 10 cent packets and every seed came up. don't plant too early indoors. cauliflower comes up fast also.

Six packs at the local nursery run about $1.79. Nine packs from the farm co-op are $2.59 I think. Wal-Mart has them the cheapest, I remember that, but I can't remember their price. I do remember that I usually have my garden planted though before they get the plants in. You might want to call around and check prices and when they'll be available.

I work at a greenhouse and we charge $1.35 for a 6-pack, but our local Wal-mart is cheaper.

Around here that is way too steep, even from the greenhouses, a four pack is under a dollar, by the flat even cheaper, 8 dollars for a full flat of any flower or vegetable packs, mixed or all the same kind.

Our local high school sells bunches of broccoli, cabbage, and collards that have been grown by the FFA kids, 25 to a bunch for $1. They are bare root. Other than that, Home Depot is our best nursery, and they have 9 packs for $2.57.
