Big mountaineering boots

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Mountaineering : One Thread

I would like to get into mountaineering, but I have size 16 shoes. Do any companys make this size? I have done some research and most will specially do it at a large extra cost. Also if I would happen to find this size will the crampons fit? Thanks

I have a pair of size 12 plastic double boots and my rigid Salewa crampons barely fit -- they are maxed out on the length setting. Good luck.

Matt, Lowa makes their Civetta plastic boot up to a size 16. I'm Thinking about a pair for my own size 15 canal boats. As to crampons, I had a machinist friend make me a longer extension plate for my Grivel G-10 crampons. Grivel sells one of their own wich they say fits to size 15, this may not help you.

Hey Matt, Lowa makes the Civetta Extreme in a 16. Try them out. Also, you can get a pair of custom boots from Limmer Boot in Intervale NH.

hi i am looking for some fellow necrophiliacs to join my group, the 'grave rubbers' and i was hoping that somebody would like to contact me. my e-mail is above, so dont be shy. i have access to bloodbanks, morgues and post-mortem photos which i am willing to share. e-mail me. after all, isnt time we all came out of the coffin? i am willing to get a running contact with anyone who can trade phots. talk to you later. dont worry, its a natural part of life.

Did either of you guys try the Lowa Civetta's in a 16? I have a size 16 shoe as well and was wondering how they perform?

I've used the size 14 Lowa Civettas alot... they are great, except that I don't find the inner boot very warm in winter. I have made my own inner boot out of closed cell foam for cold summit days (ie. Denali and Bolivia). I've also heard that Pac boot wool inners work in Civettas. In general though, the Civettas are a great boot.
