Need a help.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

Iīve a new computer. But some problems continuing... I have 128 mb of ram, AWE 32 SOUND BLASTER, 500 mhz of processor and a Video Card and itīs a SYS, 8 mb with acceleration and itīs in the slot AGP. Some games like SUPER STREET FIGHTER 2, 19xx, DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS donīt work with 100% in the frameskip. Stays on 95%, 98%, 100% in the AUTO FRMSKIP 7 or 8.

What in your opnion, I need to change? Processor or Video Card?? GeForce 2 64mb AGP is a nice Card?? Thanks for the attencion, marpers :)

video card won't do a whole lot. it's definitely the processor speed 500 just doesn't cut it with modern games. it might help to get 128 more ram but i'm thinking 128 should do for those some of those games as long as you don't have anything else running in the backgroun. I thought 1945 was the only game that needed 256M.

MAME takes no notice of 3D video cards I believe, and it's the processor speed which matters. More ram would help speed up the PC, but only noticably if you are running Windows 2000 or XP in day to day use.

Definately go for a faster processor, as I think you need 1ghz or more to run all games at 100% on frameskip 0.

I believe RAM keeps the larger games in memory, and the larger the RAM, the faster it does it.

On my computer (P3 800Mhz),CPS-2 games runs at full speed in dmame, but they runs at fskip 4 with mamew(Last notified:Marvel vs. Capcom).I don't know much about the win16 port, but disabling Direct Draw plus Hardware Stretch should give a "level up" in the fskip. That two options are obviusly related with the video card. But I think first that you have to change processor, then the video card, because sooner or later there should be Direct3d support for MAME...

PS:OK,INNUENDO,thanks for the reply about altb, but I don't think to play it again before three months;and,I simply don't like to be "forced" by anyone to do anything, especially that crappy game. After all,now the ranking on that game isn't embarassing...

500MHz is probably pushing it a bit, but as a comparison, BBH told me that his PC runs CPS-2 games in MAME at a frameskip of around 3 with sound enabled. His PC runs at 450MHz, btw.

Video cards can make a difference in MAME's performance, although the difference these days is pretty minor. A GeForce 2 based card is perfectly fine (I have a cheapo 32MB TNT2 M64, which works brilliantly with MAME). The problem you mention does sound somewhat like a common timing problem with DOS MAME running under Windows. Easily fixed, just use a Win32 version of MAME (either Win32 console or MAME32).

RAM should be fine for most games, although the Neo Geo games with encrypted GFX will take some time to start up.

Also, before anyone gets any strange ideas, while it's true that Direct3D support is being worked for MAME, this does NOT mean that 3D games will be 3D accelerated. Simple reason is that it would be inaccurate to the arcade. And no, that doesn't mean that 3D arcade hardware isn't being worked on for MAME either. ;)

Thanks for all answers, and for the help ok? Iīve tested a computer. K7 ATHLON, 750 MHz, TNT RIVA-2 with 32 mb of acceleration. This will be my new computer. Why?? RUNNED MORTAL KOMBAT 1 and 2 WITH SOOOUND.

Iīll change my mother board and my k6-500 for this machine. More one time. thanks for the attencion. :)
