Quote from Darren Anderton on Soccernet today as the London press try to blame the Spurs defeat on them being tired despite them having a week off before the match as opposed to our 3 days.

Anderton said: 'There are lots of games. We've had injuries and we've all had to play a lot - but we don't want to use that as an excuse. We just have to pick ourselves up quickly.

Awww bless....

Now, you see to me that sounds like "There are lots of games. We've had injuries and we've all had to play a lot - and we are indeed using that as an excuse and not that we were outfought and outplayed in the 2nd half. We just have to hope the press and the fans continue to believe that Hoddle is some sort of miracle worker and that we're genuine contenders for a top place this season. Whinge, moan, complain..."

I'm sure fatigue did have a part to play, and is Spurs major weakness. I pointed out the age of their midfield earlier in the week (am I allowed a little tootle on my trumpet, so to speak?) and thought if we got them to work hard in the first half, they wouldn't be able to stay with us in the second. I didn't think they'd fold quite so easily though.

I'll join in your fanfare Peter - I'm sure I told you all about my trip to WHL on new Year's day when Spurs hammered Blackburn 1 nil, Poyet, Teddy and Sir Les were dead on their feet with quarter of an hour left that day.

AND they had a week off while we had a hard game on a crap pitch a few days earlier. Fitness levels boosted by the Intertoto?
