Application and Belief

Prior to the Spurs game I felt a cloud had settled on this forum due I feel in the main to the news about YKD and a midfield hangover following the Boro match. I stated if the players applied themselves to the task in hand a result could be achieved, 3-1 brilliant on the night. Quite a lot of you are eating humble pie, please don`t,you were correct in being concerned. From my experience you can eke out results like this but if there is a problem it ought to be fixed, bbeing complacent with the result and performance is not on, the same team playing for the next few matches may not come up with the goods. , undoing all the good work and financial rewards this may bring.

Clarky I agree with when he stated we should not have been put into this position, wing and a prayer comes to mind, also Gav is spot on when he talks about Jenas, 4 mill, Nationwide, are we looking for a midfielder for the future or one to do a job now?, I go for the latter and bringing in young Jenas at this stage would place an unfair burden on his shoulders as well as doing nothing for the confidence of the likes of Jamie McGlen. My first post on here in the auld day`s I said `Football`s a simple game`, my observation then and now is `you can either play football or you cannot`,taking into account the different levels -: my first reaction when I saw Distin a while back stroke a ball away with that majestic left peg was"Hey we got a footballer here", Robbie Elliot is not one I`m afraid , just running on Geordie emotion.

I don't have the same concern about Jenas being chucked in at the deep end. He's playing in a more hurly burly environment, he's playing the athletic, strong midfield role and he's clearly doing it well.

The concern around him may be a lack of worldliness at the higher level but he isn't going to gain that worldliness at Kingston Park. He should still be allowed to be inconsistent as he's young and learning his trade, I'm fairly confident that if he's viewed as good enough to captain his nation at his age group he has something about him personality wise.

He is clearly the Robert Lee/Didi Hamann replacement, neat passer, run all day, just what we need, and absolutely the right age, as he'll be hungry for success, and hopefully has in his head the ambition to be playing for England in Euro 2004 ??

Agree Macbeth. He is exactly what we need, and nobody can say that he won't do well at the higher level until he has been given a good chance. Obviously you can predict what will happen, but someone that strong at 18 who can pass and tackle is just what we need.

Jenas sounds like the type who will attack when the time suits it, or defend if we're "under the cosh". Great signing, if we pull it off.

I hope you're right boys...I still wouldn't drop him in the first team...he might be a good player but what about fitting into the team and our pattern of play? surely that needs to be practised?

He's captained England and Forest so obviously is considered to have a little something extra. To be honest, seeing Dyer improve on Rob Lee's old position, and hearing that young Jenas has the ability to head the ball (according to fella on 3 Leg Ends last night), hopefully he'll be here to take over from Gary Speed. We're starting to make those Leeds "babies" look like pretty ancient, aren't we?

And we're doing it without resorting to dirty tactics. Funny how that works. :-)

Just hope it's not all hot air. I'd love to see him signed. I'll take a teenager who needs six months of inconsistency over a thirty- something at the end of his tether any day.

Remember folks, we'd all have been DELIGHTED with a possible top 6 place at the start of the season. If the likes of Jenas can contribute to a championship or European win next season or the season after, that'll do me.
