Pete,

It's what keeps us all sane bonny lad - truly fantastic and a really important win.

Reminds us, if it's needed, what a memorable job Bobby Robson is doing, irrespective of whatever problems he runs into.

Just got in and I'm trying to catch up with events - with all the injuries, this was a difficult fixture - but what an absolutely fantastic result.

I'm quite happy to admit I thought we were in trouble, and am totally gobsmacked by this amazing result. You just have to say that Bobby Robson is a simply incredible Manager - simply the best!

Our players arent so bad either

And when we beat Bolton and Sunderland beat Man Utd this weekend, we're going to be TOP OF THE LEAGUE again, and with a game in hand.

At least Robson had the guts to figure the 3-5-2 wasn't working and change it!

Humble pie, anyone? Mighty tasty pie, here! I do love when I'm wrong about these things! Looking forward to match reports.

Also very glad to see Bobby make the changes at the right time. It paid off in spectacular fashion. :-)

Absolutely great.

If anyone told me that we'd be playing Spurs at WHL with that team I would have thought a 4-0 defeat would have been reasonable.

Had Spurs been in good form that might have been true, but to be honest it sounded like they were knackered in the second half - well done YBR in taking advantage of it with a fresh legged Laurent Robert.

Great stuff, another match that I really thought we'd do well to get a point out of.

Humble pie for me too! A friend rang straight after the game from WHL. Said Nobby was outstanding, worked really hard and that the substitution was inspired.

Honestly I am gobsmacked.

Spurs haven't played for a week and if any team was to show signs of fatigue it should have the Toon.

Our fitness levels have been a major bonus for us this season. I was one of the biggest critics of our involvement in the InterToto, and have been watching very carefully to see if the early start would catch up on us. I was expecting any problems to be starting to appear after the hectic Xmas programme, but I don't see any signs yet of a problem.

Regarding tactics, I'd like to think that the 3-5-2 formation was specifically used to stifle Spurs in m/f and limit their use of the wings during the early stages of the game. In that regard it looks as though it may have been at least partly successful, enabling BR to bring Robert on at HT and use our pace to have a real go at them as they were tiring.

Whatever it bloody well worked!

Yeah - good shout Clarky. Their goal wasn't due to the formation as it came from (yet another) setpiece on the right. We just didn't see Iverson ghosting in at the back post. But credit where credit is due. From the very few moments just shown on ITV's Premiership, Bellamy was fantastic, making 2 goals and scoring one. His pace to beat Campbell and earn the FK for the first must have worried SGE. And couple that pace with his tenacity for the 2nd - well, Spurs just couldn't cope. And then his movement to find space in front of goal for the 3rd (nicely picked out by Hughes who must have had a freer role once he saw Gus off :@) was tremendous. More Humble Pie for CB's signing as well folks, eh??

Of course, I always felt confident we'd win this one, with 5 in the middle to start with.

Errrr.... Screach. SGE must have been very worried at Campbell's performance. THe bastard was up in Blackburn. I think that was Richards

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Thought for a moment you were trying to say that SGE would be worried by Bellamy's pace.....

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Sol Campbell? I thought he was transferred (acrimoniously) to the Ar$e?

Were you pissed when you wrote that Screach? :))
