"The Lads"!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Excellent. Now lads and lasses, make me feel better cos I'm not too hopeful for the neet. NO MORE NEGATIVES! Positive vibes is wot we need!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Poyet and Ferdinand declared unfit for tonight!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Only joking....

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Gav you buggar! I was jumping up and down before I scanned down the page!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

It's backs against the wall time, and not just in the 2 Brewers eithers ;-) If we come out of this game with a result, it'll be another HUGE boost and will mean we can't blame any drop in form on the weakness of our squad. If we lose........it might be a slippery slope from now on in.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Shearer: good player
Bellamy: good player & together good parntership
Solano's in good form
Robert: good player - we need him tonight, Bob'll have a word

We'll score

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Spurs could have a crap game.......maybe

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

What time's kick-off? Is it 8?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

7.45....and i'm off to the pub now!

Have fun on the thread :))

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Think positively! Some of our best games have been played when we`ve been up against it. HOWAY THE LADS! (:o)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

745 ko means I'll see the result AND get to leave work on time!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I'm leaving work now. See yers all termorra. Blimey, I'm nervous.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Good day all from sunny Canada.

Just what is so special about Spurs that makes you all so fearful?

The London 'jinx' has been well and truly broken, now for the Gus (Poyet!) one!

Only joking about the 'sunny' Canada bit, "Howay the Lads"!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

It's raining in Laaaaahnnnnndan. Would love to beat Spurs. Collected 84p in change last time I experienced the hospitality at White Hart Lane. Revenge for the home result would be sweet.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Hey Bud, could you guys up in Canadadia hang on to that cold front? It's nearly 70 degrees here and we'd like to keep it that way. Ta. ;-))

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Evening, afternoon or maybe even good morning everyone. As long as bobby doesn't change things around too much I think we'll get a draw. Roberts complaining that he is not involved enough well in that case make sure everything goes through him. Make him play. Is there any reason why Bernard can't move inside to the centerish of midfield?? If we score first then I think we will win.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Hello lads and lasses - I've just got into work and believe a nice little 2-0 win would "spur" me to actually do something this afternoon

HOWAY THE LADS

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Aye aye. Just starting to sh*t bricks now. Hopefully the lads are feeling more positive than us lot or we really are doomed.

We CAN beat Spurs. We can beat anyone if we've got our chins up, with or without Dyer.

I really want to hear Hoddle's whingey excuses after we stuff them tonight...

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

COME ON, we can win this.

Spurs will be complacent after Chelsea. They've had a weak break, we've had 3 days so none of their players will be match fit and will be knackered after 15 minutes of chasing Bellamy around the pitch.

HOWAY THE LADS!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

OK.. should I start with a Gin and Tonic or should I drink Old Peculier during the match.... this is important!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

will this be the longest matchday thread ever? i was getting excited a few minutes ago - ready to turn on the webcast but then i realised that there was still an hour to go.

not to worry, i'm more optimistic by the second.

big al to destroy their defence and bellers to nip in through the holes to score a few - or at least have some missed one on ones!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

right.... I'll have a gin then

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Spurs last 8 league games, 4 at home 4 away

Won 2

Drawn 2

Lost 4

For 10

Against 10

In those 8 games the highest placed side they have played is Villa.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

It's 10 weeks since we lost a league game in London. The omens are good

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I don't feckin' believe it Bobby has gone with a 3-5-2 formation again. Didn't he learn last time.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Does anyone know if Sir Les has been passed as fit - he has been a doubt with a neck injury i hear.

it wont affect the score either way as we move to within 2 points of the top again.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Oh God

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Oh my God

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

3-5-2

Guess what Aaron Hughes' job is?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Man marking? Wow guessed it in one.

Who is he man marking?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Mornin' Alan. Les is not in the starting line up, still awaiting confirmation of the subs though. Doesn't look like they will be showing the peterbourgh game again on tv....sorry.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I feel exactly the way I felt right before the Arse match. Relatively calm as I'm convinced we'll lose(so no point getting worked up before the whistle even blows), will be happy for a draw, and not entertaining the idea that we'll win.

I think I'll calmly lay my coat out across my desk now so my hands don't take a bruising from beating the desk as I did by the end of the Arse match. Then I'll calmly fill my water bottle to keep my throat lubricated in case I might start screaming the way I did at the end of the Arse match. ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Wow, right again! That nice man Mr Poyet

I feel like smashing my head off something very hard

Please make me eat humble pie Bobby, I can't believe this is really happening. We are missing more midfielders than ever, so WE PLAY FIVE IN MIDFIELD. Somebody needs to throw water over my head, I need to be waken up.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Do you think Bobby Robson has alzheimer's?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

where did you hear that syme? We won't know if it's 3-5-2 till they start. I expected either Distin or Dabizas to play in midfield

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Have just refreshed my window to see all these posts about Bobby trying out 3-5-2 again.

I will now commence nailbiting while my hair goes grey.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Other games tonight:

Aston Villa v Everton Blackburn Rovers v Arsenal Chelsea v Leeds United Ipswich Town v Fulham Liverpool v Leicester City Southampton v West Ham United

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Sadly I probably won't be "on" the match thread tonight as the Chelsea v Leeds game is on the telly. A mixture of Metro for the sound and Sky for the pictures will be my night.

Let's hope for a violent encounter, lots of cards and lots of whinging by managers after the game. (That's the Chelsea v Leeds match btw)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I dont think its a 352, its more like 532 with wingbacks.......

I think the orders are to fight fight fight and then with 20 min remaining throw on Robert and let him have a go at them !!!

Undeserved 0-1 !

You heard it here first !

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

What's the line up then? Same 5-3-2 as my team pick?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

formations wont matter if we are to win this one - we need to be attacking with 6 or 7 players as often as we can so at least we should guarentee 3 in defence

Syme dont worry about the game - cheers for checking anyway

Sir Les has failed a test

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

No Robert!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

According to Sporting Life:
Tottenham: Sullivan, Perry, King, Richards, Davies, Anderton, Sherwood, Poyet, Taricco, Sheringham, Iversen.

Subs: Kelly, Rebrov, Leonhardsen, Etherington, Thelwell.

Newcastle: Given, O'Brien, Elliott, Dabizas, Distin, Solano, Acuna, Hughes, McClen, Shearer, Bellamy.

Subs: Barton, Harper, Ameobi, Kerr, Robert

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

The die is cast

Howay Lads. Jamie McClen... you are a star!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

we're sunk with that line-up

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

WE WILL WIN

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Typical... I will miss the first 15 mins as I have to go and eat my dinner :-(

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Sorry Alan, no reason why we shouldn't go and smack Spurs, who are crap, as long as we don't try and match their formation and mark Poyet. Oh, we just have. We'll come unstuck.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Hi all! Am i the only one unable to get connected to commentary?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Halloo!! Fear not - we will rise to the challenge tonight! HOWAY THE LADS!!! (:o)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

My webcast has been good so far - just the jinx i need to put on it! i'll not hear the game now!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

THERE IS NO WEBCAST JINX!! (c)Pit bill ;-)

Now...anyone know of a text commentary anywhere? I've yet to find anything and am behind a firewall so can't get streaming audio of any kind. :-(

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Momentary panic over. Text commentary on sports.com if anyone else needs it. :-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I can get the webcast....

otherwise go to www.sports.com !!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

At least we have some realistic options on the bench to change things (ie. Robert). Sadly, we are going for a draw and there is NO point in manmarking Poyet so we are basically just wasting a player. Feel even worse about this now.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Well I feared tactical meltdown from Bobby and so it is.............

Is he just being stubborn or has Dyer's injury forced him into it?

Anyone know if it's deffo 352 or is Dabs playing in the mf?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

F***k. Just realised Bernard isn't even on the bench. Why? This could all go dreadfully wrong.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Solano clears ... twice ....

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Sports.com reckone we started the better side. BBC also doing a non- opinionated text update...lots of fouls, lots of throw ins. So...I dunno what's going on!! ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I wouldn't mind this sort of experiment if we had the personnel for it but we clearly don't.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

With this 3-5-2 again is Bobby just being stubborn and trying to prove that it was the right idea all along? Why does he only try it against Tottenham and Poyet? Is he really obsessed? .... At least Nobby sounds as if he is getting stuck in

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

good attack by the lads.... Spurs countering....

I've got commentary but I keep getting "server busy" on Greenspun

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I was thinking the same thing, Dougal, re Bernard. He's got to be a better option than Kerr, or even Ameobi. I hope he's not injured.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

PS. Hughesy was saying that he would be prepared to play in the middle today but that we have been playing 4-4-2 so well... Even the players don't have faith in this system. All we can hope is that we keep their score down to a minimum and that Robert can come on and get a ten minute hat-trick. Anyone else feel a bit sick?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Not sure if it's the personnel Dougal. It would be nice if we PRACTICED the formation before using it for real......

bollox - Iverson

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Spurs 1, Iverson.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I'd play Distin as a sweeper behind/ahead of Dabs and O'B... drop Shearer to m/f and leave Bellamy up front

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Aw flippin` heck! COME ON LADS - we can do this!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Bollox. Iverson is another one who always scores against us. This doesn't feel great, does it?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

The Ar$e already one up :-( Chelsea too :-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I'm also getting server errors, Geordie. Good time to remind everyone to head over to www.dailytoon.co.uk message board if this one goes t*ts up during the match!

Dougal, surprisingly I don't feel all that sick now. I think i'm just resigned to the situation as being so horribly predictable. :-( I just hope by now we've got the bottle to get a result, unlike previous seasons. Howay lads...fiiiiight!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

WTF, are we playing 3-5-2 again vs Spurs??!?! Did they think it worked well the first time? Also sounds great when we have so many avaliable midfield players =[[

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Arse 1-0 at BlackB (Bergkhamp) Ipswich 1 Fulham 0, Chelsea 0 Leeds 1

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

OH F#@#$G H3LL!!! From a fackin corner!!!! Are we EVER going to learn to defend set pieces??!! AAARRRRRRRRRRGHHH!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Is Robert also injured?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Did Spurs score? $h!t, so slow here :-(

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Ciara... answer to your question ... NO!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Come ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN, lads!!!!! WORK!!! FIGHT!!!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Geordie Chewsea are leading not losing mate.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Blaydon Races loud and clear on the webcast... HOWAY

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Sorry... I'm alowed a typo on other teams scores :-((

Come on Lads.... sounds like we are having a go at times.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Arse now 2 up. Are we actually mounting any attacks? The people at the game will be better able to say whether it's the formation or the players who are at fault but this is sounding so lame.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

So what's wor score, difficult to decipher from the thread? :-(

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

sports.com said McClen and Bellamy just combined well but Bellers caught offside.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

We are sh*t by the sound of it. All I've heard is 'nothing balls', 'loses possession', 'poor control'. Distin booked - greeat.

Well I'm gibbing out and going to find some other excruiating pastime for the rest of the game. See you all at full time if I can cope.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Blackburn claw one back... FFS bring Robert on: we may lose by a greater margin but we may get something back, too.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

The drugs are taking effect at sports.com. One minute we're 'finding our feet' and doing well, the next Dabs has wasted an opportunity by taking a shot when he should have passed to Bellamy, who was open. then again....that's fairly normal for us, innit? ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I wish the lads would show some of the spirit they showed against Leeds and Arsenal.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

How is it sounding on the webcast/radio? I can't get any sense of how we're playing from the text updates.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

This is so very predictable. I tried to be positive this week, but I had this awful feeling that we were about to throw away another 3 points with a dodgy formation.

What did we say during the last week?

Don't man mark Poyet - he isn't a playmaker ffs. Don't play Solano as a wing back. Don't play Elliott.

Wouldn't Bernard or even Wayne Quinn be better at left wing-back than Elliott. You need someone who can attack a bit as well.

We are basically well and truly buggered, and with Chelsea beating Leeds we might struggle to stay in the top 5.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Varied... we do sound as though we are having a go which is more than we managed against them at home but we equally sound as though it's one of those days where you just won't find a goal.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

They're all old men except Simon Davies in the Tottenham team while we've got no-one over 27 except Shearer, and lots of 20-22 year olds. If we can hang on at 1-0 until the last quarter and then bring on Robert then maybe we can beat their tired legs

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Don't worry we'll pull it back. 3-1 to us.

YEAH 2-2 COME ON BLACKBURN

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I'm hoping that's the masterplan, Barry, but I have this awful feeling like I had against Leicester, that we could play all day and not get a goal.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

COME ON MAN NEWCASTLE!

Richards booked for a foul on Bellamy. Come on man, we need something.

"Solano's ball is a wicked one" - What the f*** does that mean?

2-2 Blackburn Arsenal, come on man!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Great - Richards yellow card - should set CB free

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Paul, I agree re Poyet: just bloody make sure he doesn't get any b*stard free headers.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

...and talking of spirit...Geordie...can you pour a little of your tonic in the direction of our attack.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Why isnt Robert playing? Does anyone know that? Doesnt he fit in to this formation? Is he injured? Lots of questions...

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

But allowing free headers is the one thing we're consistent at. ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

If there was ever a game when we needed an injection of Luax2 this would be it. Hope bobby tells him so as well.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Good commentator? "the shot is straight at Shay Given diving to his right" Eh?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Sudden, I think it's partly the formation and partly so if it all goes tits up, we can bring someone pacy and skillful into the side.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Which once again begs the question....where is Bernard??

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

For the non-audio webcasters : "diabolical ball from Acuna"

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

DSHGFKDAGFHAKDKSFGGFGGFG!!!!!%%%^&^&&&&££££!!!!!!!!!! How am I supposed to give up nicotine as long as I support this bloody club?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

2-0 Chewsea :-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

???

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

It sounds as if Solano's had a good half. And the team as a whole sounds as if it's done better than at St James's with this 3-5-2.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Thankfully I haven't heard a lot of Poyet.

Solano and Elliott are both scared to get forward. Acuna and McClen aren't used to going forward, so we have Bellamy up front on his own. Shearer is anonymous at the moment. What a waste of 45 minutes, I could have unravelled some sellotape and then put it back on the roll again in that time.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Barry, that's the impression I'm getting. What sounds appalling is some of our passing tonight. Are we so used to cabbage patches that we can't play on a proper pitch.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I really hope he brings Robert on when he can make a difference, even in terms of freekicks...

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Crap, when di Chelsea score?

I've got the fecking match on Sky in here and missed the goal with the volume down.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Sorry Ciara, I'm still dreaming of a CL place for us and, on second thoughts, a draw Chewsea / Leeds would be better for us.

We've played $h!te in the first half of many (?) games and still managed to get something out of them! Fingers crossed.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

To be alittle optimistic, Tottenham hasnt had any clear-cut chances...... Neither have we, but I said just a little optimistic

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

When should we get Robert on? Now? Is there not a French national team scout there that Robert wants to impress - hope so?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

We'll win this one 3-1. From the radio, it sounds as though all of our attacks are starting with Dabizas..

I keep hearing "Dabizas, surging forward"

"dabizas coud set free Bellamy here" ect.. Anyone ele noticed this?

I think the reason RObert isn't playing is because we're playing 5-3-2 Robert would be useless as a wing back so if he comes on, the formation will have to change which isnt a great thing to do half way through a match. Unless of course he comes on as a forward.

Remeber, 3-1

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Switch to 442 and push Nobby and Laurent up the pitch and get stuck in

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Free kicks?

We win less free kicks just outside the box than any other team, and that's a fact. Most of our free kicks are out wide of the box, which is why we should work on them in training. If we were good at set pieces we would win EVERY match.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Bud, it wasn't your post that confused me, it was Dougal's just above it. I thought Spurs had scored again, but there were no updates to the 2 text sites I'm watching.

We're only down by one, we should at least get a draw out of this. Wonder if Bobby will make any subs before the 80th minute?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Although Robert should come on.

Sub off Shearer if we must, he is doing nowt anyway, so even if Robert gets one of them booked it will be an improvement.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Agree with Alan. We need to go for it.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Alan, I agree entirely, but Bobby Robson will try to be clever, probably get Bellamy man-marking Sullivan and he'll be offside all the time.

Or Robert on as a centre back, that's another one that wouldn't surprise me one bit.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

With Leicester still holding Liverpool at Anfield and Arsenal drawing and Leeds losing, it's not such a bad night overall for us so far. But I think Chelsea are going to be the team to come through past Liverpool Leeds and us? - they've hardly lost any games this season - which is a good indicator of a good team

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Cmon, Bobby's not that daft!

He'll play McClen as centre back. ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Where is Bernard??? Why are they playing my sweet love at halftime? soft southern tossers.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Gudjohnsen's got a nasty sprain in his ankle for Chelsea. Wilcox should be sent off but the ref is a wimp.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I'd like to see the way Bellamy would man mark someone - the tyson v lewis press conference would be nothing in comparison!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Nee tonic left ... on the red wine now

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Dont worry Geordie - the second half will be all the tonic you need

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Chewsea have (temporarily I hope) overtaken us, as top of the top 6 mini-league :-9

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Robert on for elliott.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I think i am right - come on Robert

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

For real??!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

G'Day.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Ooo..just saw it on the text update. After picking myself up from the floor in shock....WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Cmon LOLO!!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Morning from Oz. Didn't sound like a disastrous first half, there's still points to be won here! And the webcast has been seamless.....

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

COME ON!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Howay me Bonnie Lads!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

............back later. See youse.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Was it my imagination or did the commentatot just say that the Sunderland fans on his right are in good voice??

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

G'day shags...

F**KING HELL!!! The commentator just said "That's the Sunderland fans you can hear to the right"

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

They're the Sunderland fans you can here to our right?!

The f*cker's gone too far.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Alan Mullary - who is VERY pro Newcastle summed up as follows

Defence solid

Bellamy working hard

Men in the midfield NON BLOODY existant

The lad McClen - well its his first game - looks like a little boy

Acuna has no quality

Solano is trying but.....

Says it all

Wonder why we bothered playing this game

Pools panel could have decided it

YOU CANNOT WIN ANY GAME WITHOUT SOME QUALITY IN THE BLOODY MIDDLE

sorry Lynda up on my high horse again, but its bloody obvious

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

TOON ARMY are in good voice

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Are you lot serious??!!! that tosser needs to be sacked. NOW. Where did Metro get him from anyway?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Let's make this possession count for something, lads!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

He's the new sports editor at Metro. Sacked Mick Lowes and took over himself. Allegedly.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I wish I could turn the commentary off and just listen to the lads

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Yes, deadly serious!! In his defence I think he was referring to the Spurs fans because I think he then mentioned the Newcastle fans (who by the way are in great voice) on his left.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I thought it was me mishearing him due to my teeth grinding in frustration...

The final straw, surely. Did you hear him stammering earlier as well? Mick 'Mediocrity' Martin had to jump in to help him out...

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

F*CK me... bliddy commentators now saying Spurs being cautious UNTIL they get their second! For crying out loud!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

He's always stammering and getting things wrong. He just can't hack it as a football commentator.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

We're coming into the game. They're getting tired (says he hopefully)

Can anyone muster any excitement when Bellamy's one on one with the keeper?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Only when he screws up and actually puts the ball into the net. ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Have a look at the Sporting Life Live Table. Gives you that warm feeling. If we can hold on, then I think this game could make our season - to do well with "half the team" absent. And it will give McClen a lot of confidence.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Steph, perhaps an old dog can learn new tricks. Like making subs before the 80th minute. ;-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Just take a look in the next two fixtures... given we may win this onw

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Robert has another break and right footed shot... missed

Just had a thought - is that ever so nice, unbiased Mr John Littledick on Radio 5 tonight? Hope so - will be essential listening.

Late good morning all,

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I am checking Radio 5 now. McClen doing well. CB 1 on 1 missed (but he scores the hard ones)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Can ye hear them fans!!!!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Jamie McClen getting a lot of favourable mention.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Ok so we are beating spurs 3-1, away from home. We have 2 easy home games coming up. We are without Lee, Speed and Dyer and we are using a reserve. We are still beating a team that have just stuffed Chelsea. We ARE title contenders.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

This idea of conning them into thinking that we are shite in the first half is mint; all hail Lord Bobby.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

We also played like crap against Leicester.

BUT...we have risen up from an embarrassing performance to battle a win against P'boro and stuff Spurs tonight...we are certainly on the right track. Just have to keep it going!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Bellamy's Law: 1/1 = Infinity.

Who cares? I do, but not right now :-)

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Can I just be smug and repost my bit from the start of the thread...

"We CAN beat Spurs. We can beat anyone if we've got our chins up, with or without Dyer.

I really want to hear Hoddle's whingey excuses after we stuff them tonight"

Ohhh... and my mackem mate is coming tomorrow (see Mackem Baiting thread). (Evil laughter...)

ps/ I vote we all e mail Metro and ask them to get rid of that Mick? Nick Martin and employ somebody who gives a shit. He was getting right up my nose tonight.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

We had to win tonight AND WE DID - all of our challengers are winning : Arsenal, Pool, Chelsea and Man Utd last night; Leeds falling by the wayside. 14 points ahead of also rans like Tottenham. We must be in the UEFA Cup (we'd need to hit relegation form not to get the about 12 points needed now) and CL if we're lucky. Makes you proud. McClen had a good game - good for his confidence. I want to see the headlines in those London papers "London Clubs under Newcastle Jinx". And Poyet was subbed. 3- 5-2 Masterplan - Ha Ha Ha.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

That'll make the golf with the old fella ( who arrived from the Uk yesterda' ) this afternoon all the more pleasurable . GET INNNNNN !

Robert doubters, eat your words.

I am extremely happy.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Here it is:

Notice the Baggies scarf.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

And Robert had a great game it sounds like. Now let's get on to Adrian Chiles. You can e-mail him and ask him to get Richard Littlej to phone in and grovel.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Which one are you Shag? Or are you the cameraman? Did he call himself Chiles as in Piles then too ?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Have a lot of respect for Adrian Chiles if he's on tonight. Poor bloke was (guest) co-hosting Five Live Breakfast Show at 6am on Monday, went down with illness Monday PM, but back at 6am till 9am today - and must have missed the big WBA match last night, which would have been a big sacrifice. Pics of Mr Chiles in his early days would be interesting.

And the more I think about it, the more significant tonight's result becomes.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I had a G&T .. we went one down... 3 glasses of good red wine brought us level.. and a cup of tea to steady the ship to full time

Not superstitious me at all like....

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

3 to bring us level??? oh well

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Shag. If you were near Chiles at Uni then you may know a friend of mine. Ged Naughton.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I'm the cameraman. At the time he called himself either "Voodoo", as in the Jimi Hendrix song (Voodoo Chiles, geddit?), or "Eggy" which apparently was a reference to his ... ahem ... eggs.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

AArg! After an admittedly trouble free 90 mins of Metro webcast (only need to change the commentators and we're sorted), Auntie Beeb has let me down. I can't access the 5-live webcast. Anyone else having problems or is it just me

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

So is it 3 glasses per goal Geordie? So that makes two or three bottles of red (depending on how big your glass is) for tonight's result. Well worth it. Have another couple of bottles ready for Saturday afternoon.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I have photographic records of one Gerard Naughton too, though not right now scanned in. You ever heard his rendition of "Are you lonesome tonight?", where he does the middle spoken bit in an Ian Paisley voice?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Just so happens that George (I talk bollox about Newcastle) Graham was the manager of Arsenal, Leeds & Spurs - thanks for the points LOL

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Goodnight all.. and I mean GOOD

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Great photo!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

I assume Gav mustn't have made it to the match ! ;-))

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Ged has atendency to lapse into Paisley speak on a regular basis. i was talking to his brother and he has took the pledge to stay off the booze. he is currently house sharing with a mate of mine who is a Mackem. Should be fun for him tonight

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Radio 5 will be back on soon when they've finished the non- webcastable match commentary. It's working for me but they've got the "we can't webcast" message on at the moment.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

The only man (Ged Naughton that is) ever to include references to both Star Trek and Stiff Little Fingers in an English final about Hamlet.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

LoL Dougal, you guys can be a little cynical at times. You can guarantee a "don't get too excited" post will be on here soon. I guess it's my youth, I haven't had to watch Newcastle Never win Anything for too long. I haven't seen as many runners up medals ect... No I won't reveal my age because you lot won't take me seriously if i do!

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Mark Bright is sub for Adrian on Five Live tonight.

Scuse my ignorance, just how do you paste a pic into the BBS box?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Hey it's not Adrian Chiles it's Mark Bright instead. He's OK too isn't he. But I wish it was Richard Littlej. Got a pic of Mark Bright too, Shag? Am I right thinking that Adrian Chiles is married to Jane Garvey of "Garvey and the grumpy one at drive time" fame?

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Swamp the 606 e-mail 606@bbc.co.uk with "Newcastle Jinx on London Clubs" posts

Wonderful, intelligent journalism:

"Newcastle needed some inspiration and manager Bobby Robson made an adventurous half-time substitution, bringing on French winger Lauren Robert for defender Robbie Elliott."

Must've been cribbed (and modified) from the BBS? {Sporting Life}

:-)

Yep re. spouse of Chiles.

You insert a picture thusly: <img="address of image">

We're 18 points ahead of Sunderland, who still haven't got 20 goals yet - only Leicester and Derby have scored (slightly) fewer goals. But more important we're 10 POINTS AHEAD OF THE 7th team and 14 POINTS AHEAD of the 8th team. We're in the Breakaway group that's on the boat to Europe.

Mark Bright just read out my Newcastle Reverse Jinx on London Clubs e- mail. Fame at last.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Heard that, BArry. Good one! I had to laugh as they read the news headlines at the top of the hour. "Newcastle finally end London hoodoo"(something like that). Oh really? And here I was thinking we'd ended it on December 18 at Highbury. The newsreader musn't have heard about that one. ;-D

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Great match thread, shame I missed most of it. Reading through it is brilliant, especially when we win. Everyone is cursing everyone (including me) at half time, writing us off, and then the second half is a different game.

I have to admit I felt like we'd scored when Robert was brought on, I just knew that LoLo on as a sub against a North London team, in North London - lightning does strike twice.

-- Anonymous, January 30, 2002

Right, here's my sixpeneth. First half, so-so, Spurs probably worth their one goal lead, but only just. Still thought we would score second half, but I'm a half full bloke, at least where the Toon are concerned. Solano playing a blinder, attacking and defending. McClen looked nervous, Distin was outstanding, Bellamy was Bellamy, and unfortunately Elliot was Elliot. He was okay for the first 10 minutes, then the real Elliot took over. I'll keep on saying it until he goes the way of Barton - he was total pants. Please make this his last game. Second half was a different game. I told Pete Miller that we should take Elliot off, have Distin drop back into that spot, and bring on Robert. Fortunately both YBR and I have ESP, and he picked up my tactical masterstroke through the ether. The rest you know. Robert, brilliant. Distin, outstanding. Solano, brilliant and outstanding. McClen, suddenly started to enjoy himself and relaxed. Bellamy still Bellamy, but this time with Robert running with him. Shearer looked majestic, and enjoyed his goal almost as much as we did. When Acuna scored there was only gonna be one winner. To be honest we could have scored 4 or 5. Spurs terraces were half empty with 10 minutes to go, they knew they were stuffed. Enjoyed the 'are you Arsenal in disguise' chorus nearly as much as 'we always win in London'. Toon Army were awesome, just like at the Arse. Never stopped all night, especially when we went one down. Acknowledged by Al, who went mental when he scored. Ditto young Craig. Even the Spurs fans in the pubs (yup, Pete Miller, Min, Gav and I thought we should have one or two to celebrate - did you get home okay lads?) admitted we were superb second half, and all wanted to see us win the Premiership. So we're back to being everyone's second favourite team. It only took 5 years. Oh, and the salt beef bagels up there are great/cheap, so it's not so much of a sh.thole as we thought on the way up there. Glad I'm typing this, I've lost my voice. Three of us in the office here. one Manure fan (from Devon!), and yes, you guessed it, one Spurs fan who was actually there last night. He's not in yet, but I can wait. I've got all day. And no, I won't be magnanimous in defeat. Cockney wa..ers. My son taped the footy for me, so I've got that to look forward to tonight. But he gave me a real bad time this morning for not taking him last night. He said something about preferring to go with my mates rather than him. Not true, but it is a bit difficult to sneak a 14 year old in and out of Cockney pubs, aven if he is considerably taller than me. I'm off for a gloat now. Bye. TOON TOON.
