What was San Francisco like in 1927?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : San Francisco History : One Thread

I would like to know what San Francisco was like in the year 1927. Politic, society etc. I didn't find anything really because all the articles referr to something specific that happened and I don't need to know that. Thank you very much!

These should get you started. I used "roaring twenties" and "san francisco" in google:

San Francisco sets a distance record for telephone calls: http://www.louisville.edu/~kprayb01/1920s-Year-27news.html

San Francisco police work in the Roaring Twenties (check the sidebar for related items): http://www.sfmuseum.org/sfpd/sfpd3.html

The California bootlegging era: http://www.wemweb.com/walker/links.html

There are lots of period photos in the historical collection at the SF Public Library: http://webbie.sfpl.org/cgibin/tramp2.exe/log_in/? guest&SETTING_KEY=English&servers=photos&screen=photos.html

And, of course, there's always the Roaring Twenties nightclub (if it's still open ......)

Try and find "Good Life In Hard Times" and "Hometown San Francisco" by Jerry Flamm. They cover more than just the 20's but you'll find them very useful.
