You might save at most $50 buying it used, so if you need it in 2 weeks I wouldn't hesitate to buy it from B&H new.

B+H & Calumet & Tamarkin are out of the SCA 3501 or 3502 adapter. The 32Z-2 is available, but useless w/o the hotshot adapter. Even Bogen cannot say when new adapters will be in... Bummer. Hence, my query. Hoping to come across someone who's not really using their combo--!

Hi guys, what is the difference between the 3501 and 3502, I have the 3501 and 32Z-2, what can the 3502 do that the 3501 doesn't.

Cancel that request to buy a flash & adapter! I found the Metz & the 3502 at Adorama, after failing at about 10 other dealers. Thanks though to anyone who was considering!

Re the question about the difference betwn the 3501 & 3502 adapter. Look in the LUG archives under Flash. The questions & answers are there, but essentially there's no functional difference. Relax--

Mitchell,

According to information from Metz, the 3501 and 3502 are functionally equivalent. Difference is that 3501 functions are hard wired and 3502 has a reprogrammable chip which means the functions can be restored or even modified perhaps in the future if needed. I use a 3502 on my R8. LB

The 3002 series is Metz long-overdue answer to the cat-and-mouse game the 3rd-part flashers have been playing with the major brands. Every time Nikon came out with a new body they somehow managed to program it so it was still compatible with all the antecedent Nikon strobes yet locked out the 3rd-party units. Hence there are Metz modules for Nikon out the wazoo in both 300 and 3000-series, labelled M1, M2, M3 etc. Now, so the theory goes, instead of buying a new module you'll be able to get your old module re-programmed. In the case of Leica, though, the need for a programmable module is moot, since Leica a) doesn't make their own flashes and so is cooperative with Metz, and b) probably won't be introducing new flash technology any time soon.

This isn't true, the 32Z-2 comes with a standard foot that will allow you to use it in non-TTL mode with any camera that has a hotshoe (which is how Leica photogs have been getting by for the past - oh - 30 odd years? And even longer before that using coldshoes and PC syncs)... TTL isn't that big of a deal, its only real advantage is more convenience in terms of aperture settings. Glad you found the SCA3502 but even if you hadn't, you wouldn't have any trouble just buying the 32Z-2 by itself and then picking up the adapter later.
