A friend of mine offerred me a lens - TELE-ELMARIT 1:2.8/90 Can anyone indentify this lens? Is it for a -M or -R? the serial number is 2258291 And it says Leitz Canada. I am thinking of using this for my Canon D30 if there is an adapter. Thanks very much

I am not certain but would guess that it is for the M, in which case it almost certainly wouldn't work with a D30. If you want a buyer, i am interested...

How much can you spend for this? I have no idea. If it is for -M, I am sure I can't use it for Canon unless there is a special adapter ofr it. (PS but the mount is bayonet type not screw type. is it stll for -M?)

Yes it is an M lens. You cannot get adapters that will work because the back focus of the M camera is much shorter than a Canon.

Tell the friend to give it to a Leica M user who doesn't have a good 90mm. It is the lightest and handiest 90mm I know of for the M cameras. It can't match the latest Summicron asph. in either speed or quality, but the latter as as good as most of us need and the difference in price is in the order of $1K.

It's a 1968 lens for a Leica M rangefinder (all Ms have bayonet mounts). Won't work on current digitals, but might if Leica ever comes out with an M-mount dit.

It's the so-called 'fat' tele-elmarit design. Worth (depending on condition) $400-$700 US. IF it happens to be chrome instead of black that may shoot up to c. $1000 US from the right collector.

Thanks very much for all replies...... Anyone wants to swap this with -R lens?(90mm or something else?) I haven't used leica lenses and I am so much curious about it with my digital Canon D30 compare to other canon L lenses.
