Anyone heard any more about the report from last weekend's Times that Mick McCarthy has been offered the Toon job?

I remember the last time this happened - Big Jack.

NEWCASTLE WANT MICK MCCARTHY

Ireland boss Mick McCarthy has reportedly been offered the Newcastle United manager's job from the start of next season.

McCarthy, who will take the Irish to the World Cup finals in the summer, is currently in talks with the FA of Ireland about a new contract but the Sunday Times reports that Newcastle want the Yorkshireman to take over as their manager with current boss Bobby Robson moving upstairs into a director of football role.

The story claims Newcastle are prepared to pay McCarthy £1m per year, four times what Ireland are supposedly offering.

The former Millwall manager's agent Liam Gaskin said: "I'm not denying that clubs have approached us but I couldn't really comment on it. At the moment we're not talking to anybody, only the FAI."

Actually, your a bit late with this one Brian. It was discussed last week on another "Mick Macarthy" thread. If you drop down about 20-30 titles you should find it and can catch up on the points made there.

Welcome on board btw!

Thanks for the welcome Clarky. I lost contact with the BBS when it moved off Communicata what must be ages ago. Delighted to find most of you still around and contributing some excellent stuff.
