Everybody OK up there? We`ve had our fair share of stormforce winds down here over the last few years, and it`s not funny. (:o|

One of the guys at work told me about it, I thought he was just trying to wind me up as I am flying back next Wednesday. Obviously I am pleased it's this week as opposed to next but as Galaxy said, is everyone alreet?

PS Galaxy - I'm looking forward to eating some stotties

Wind worst I can remember, but that might be just my age :-{E}

Seriously, but, wind worst I can remember, but we've not been too badly hit. A wooden seat out the front ended up round the side and there's a tree that's now canted over at an unnatural angle that'll take a bit of getting upright again.

Minor, really, compared with some places.

Seen worse - when I was 14 we had the infamous Michael Fish hurricane hit the South East, and a park at the end of my road had some 100 yr old oaks and sycamores come down. Managed to sleep through the whole thing :-) There was some impressive tree limbs torn off up by me, but as usual in this country, we all fill our pants when anything's above fart force.

Below fart force today up in north Northumberland. Quite a few limbs off in the garden and a few roads blocked with fallen trees. One lorry on it's side and evidence of others blown into the ditch. Back to normal - it's raining.

Thanks for your concerns Gal.

Everything OK here in Preston Village. I'm a bit worried about my little place up the coast mind - probably be on one of the Farne Islands by now!!

With seven people dead, it sounded pretty serious to me.

Good to know you are all OK though.(:o)

Some of the worst weather I have experienced has been since we moved into the house we are in now. I was trying to think back to when I lived in the NE. The most striking memory that suddenly `tinged` in my brain was of some dreadful pea-soupers when I was really young. Is anyone else old enough to remember that hideous yellow fog?

Hideous yellow fog? Had one last night. Too much vodka :-(

Blocked in at work yesterday, a roof had blew off some poor sods house so the constabulary cordened the area off.

When I got home I found the fence over and a rather large floating dry dock moored 100' from my front door, I don't know whether it broke loose from across the river and was tied where it ended up but it looked even bigger this morning.

Just walked up and down Dunfermline's pedestrianised High Street, amazing, like a bomb has gone off, shop windows in, asphalt and slate all over the middle of the street, scaffolding lying around

my ten tiles have been returned to their proper place on the roof, which is nice as its due to piss out down later

Good to see you're all ok and hopefully without too much damage. I was down in Southampton during the hurricane that hit the South East, so I can remember the damage and disruption it causes. I also got caught up in a seriously big hurricane in Mexico. I was blown by Roxanne according to the t-shirt - and actually enjoyed every minute of it ;-) There's something exhilarating about nature at it's worst...

I spent weeks working on insurance jobs after the 1987 storm, these winds seemed as bad but there were no leaves on the trees to make it worse. My brother spent 10 hours driving through it yesterday and said the whole way was spent negotiating fallen lorries and trees. Just as well he was wearing his brown trousers apparently - drank a beer like it was Ice Cold in Alex when he got here.

You mean he had a German spy as a passanger?

Glad to hear everyone's ok. Looked pretty frightening on the news last night.

I thought of you all when I saw the pictures on the news here in Oz last night.

Hang in there

My brother works in Howden and lives in Morpeth. It took him 90 minutes to get home last night, having done a variety of detours to avoid closed roads, including taking in the sights of Ashington!

When he got home he couldn't get in his drive because there was a tree across it. The tree hadn't uprooted, it had snapped straight through the middle of a 15 inch diameter trunk! With the assistance of "man with chainsaw" he managed to get into his house. He then went round the back and found another tree had fetched his telephone line down!
