whats the deal with the eos-2000 (digital)? it seems like a downgrade from the eos-1D. i saw it on the canon usa website

It's not a downgrade. It came out before the EOS 1D, in 1998.

It was a hugely expensive (tens of thousands of US dollars) camera developed in conjunction with Kodak.

Yes the D2000 is an OLDER camera, it is also known as the Kodak DCS 520.
