Favorite CH pairing?

This ought to kick up a fuss ;-)

Out of Dabs, O'Brien, and Distin which would be your favored CH pairing and why?

I'd probably go with Distin and O'Brien. Dabs works his socks off, but is still too inconsistent for me and too prone to daft mistakes. Not that O'Brien is perfect(other than his perfect og header yesterday!) but he has yet to make me as nervous as Dabs. Distin is a rock and paired with O'B could be our future. I'd still keep Dabs around as he is reliable to fill in when one of the others is injured/suspended.

Phillipe Albert and Darren Peacock.

Come on Clarky Philipe Albert yes but Peacock

no has to be Macnamee He's here he's there he's evry f****

but as all 3 of these are a bit old we will have to stick with Distin who gets better every game - will he sign for us - O'Brian / Dabs fighting for the other spot with OBrian just shading it at the moment.

Also think Hughes was better in the middle than full back.

Dabs and Distin are certainly my 2 favourite defender. But they do the same job in the air ect so probably wouldn't make a good pairing.

To tell the truth, I still don't think we have a good partnership to be found at the club. We have any number of decent centre halves but put them together and they are all vulnerable as units. This is nothing new: we were all saying that Hughes and Goma were good individually but poor as a partnership and we are saying the same thing about any permutation of Distin, O'Brien and Dabizas.

Roeder and Jeff Clarke.

I'd say Distin/O'Brien, but we still need a Leader of Men in there.

That's the thing. Distin / O'Brien on pure ability, but Dabizas is the closest we have to a centre back captain, who can start the rally calls etc. A proper captainesque defensive centre midfielder would help a great deal.

If we could combine the best of Dabz and Distin we'd have a cracking CB. Dabz is strong and sticks to his man like an elastoplast. For me Distin allows strikers to push him around to much, and he get's dragged out of position - however, he's mustard in the air.

If I'm entirely honest, I'm not totally convinced by any of the three, and feel any combination involves compromises.

I'll limit this to current squad players. Ans in answer, I don't know. Well, to be more precise, I'd say O'Brien/Distin. Or Dabs/O'Brien. Or O'Brien/Distin. What I'm saying is that we need all three of them. O'Brien lacks pace, but has great positional sence. Dabs and Distin both have pace. Distin is cool and is great in the air. The trick is picking the right partnership for each game. I think these three are so closely matched that the have formed a great relationship/competitiveness which I believe can be used as a strength. Over to you Bobby!

As long as they can stick together until Gary Caldwell comes thro

They each have strengths and weaknesses so I'd go for any two from the three, as long as there was somebody else to cover the clangers. That's the aspect that has me scratching my head.

Making the most of what we have as is, I'd say probably Distin and O'brien And, I'm not sure any such thing exists as an ideal pair among any of the top teams, without mixing and matching.

Henchoz & Hyppia are a great partnership.

From what I've seen on TV I would go for O'Brien and Dabizas, I am still yet to be convinced by Distin. Maybe when I see him live I will change my opinion of him.

Screach, not a bad idea to use the 3 CH's depending on needs per match. I don't think Bobby has really done that yet. He still seems to rate DAbs highest and will put him on when fit. I think Dabs might do better knowing he's not an automatic first choice. Or stick with whoever is in form and be ready to drop one when they lose form. Something else, Bobby seems reluctant to do with our defenders.

Dan: are you me? I was going to say Roeder and Clarke. (Mostly for the former, obviously. Best central defender we've had.) I also think Distin/O'Brien is our best pairing. Big Sylvia impresses me with his pace, size and coolness on the ball. He needs more games to learn to that referees will allow forwards to shove him around a bit more in England, but a bloke of his physique should be able to cope. I though O'Brien was poor against Peterborough (ignoring the deadly finishes), but perhaps he was just a little off the pace having been rested. You can't fault Dabs for his commitment, but maybe we need to give Distin and O'Brien a run.

We need a pool of 3 that are comfortable playing in any combination. Distin probably has all the right skills, pace and physique, which together with him being left footed, means that he can make the left side his if he wants. He's just a bit too casual for me at the moment, but I put that down to the pace of the premiership and he is getting better. Dabizas's only down-side is his concentration, but he's a valuable player and will take the pressure of O'Brien who can hopefully continue to develop into a top defender.

Distin & Dabs.

-- Anonymous, January 29, 2002

Dabizas and O'Brien for now.

Distin has a lot to learn about positional sense and for all his strength was brushed off the ball a couple of times against Peterborough. Using his speed to make up for his mistakes might lead some to conclude he's made a great saving tackle when Dabizas or O'Brien may well have been placed to take the ball calmly away in the first place.
