Officers escape after attack on mags fans...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Saw this in the Sunday Mail yesterday and again on Ananova just now....Dunno if it's already been mentioned elsewhere recently...

I think this could've been my first BBS meet up match :)) and no I wasn't anywhere near the trouble!

Amnesia Police?

What puzzles me is, if the evidence is so strong that they're awarding quite a lot of cash, why can't the guilty coppers be identified.

I can't see they'd go to that length if it was just on the word of a few whingeing supporters, I mean, we are the scum of the earth, are we not ?

Unfortunately for the police, one of the NUFC fans, a member of the Yorkshire Branch of Newcastle Supporters, was a lawyer. It was a completely unprovoked attack on a pub containing Sheff Utd and Mags drinking peacefully together and it is bloody disgraceful that the thugs who committed this crime are still serving police officers. I'm sure that the culprits could have been identified, there must be CCTV footage available but Greater Manchester Police prefer to sweep it under the carpet

Wouldn't they also have had to file an incident report after busting up a pub? Disgraceful.

Gives you great confidence in their detecting capabilities when they have an exact set of men who could have performed the act, how many identity parades woudl they have had to go through ?

Dread, i'd heard that at least a couple of our fans were northumbrian police as well....dunno how true that is...

Aye there was an off duty copper there. I know quite a few of the lads from Yorkshire who were there. The fact that those hurt are finally receiving an apology is down to the resolve of the Yorkshire Supporters and the aforementioned lawyer who didn't let the matter go away. Because Manchester Police refuse to smoke out the culprits it seems that there will never be an explanation for their behaviour that day.

As .com say, and as Private Eye even took up the cause, the problem is that police riot gear has no markings. Therefore, if it goes tits up and a copper in riot clobber takes the top of your head off you could never identify the tosser. THAT's the crime. Utter disgrace.
